Keep yourself protected on YouTube!

No recent news of people getting hacked, but here's a recent development that may illustrate how people are getting through to access other people's YT accounts. This was told to me by one of the ITs that work at my squadron. Good buddy of mine.

Your YouTube is now attached to your Google account. Unfortunately, this means that despite how good of a password you have, people can still access your account.

How? Security Questions. Big security loophole. Ironic? Yes.

How secure is your password when all somebody has to do is guess your dog's name from a list of the most common ones? Or find who you went to prom with by running through a dictionary attack full of first names?

Answer: Not very secure at all.

Thus, I recommend you all double check your google accounts, and either set your security question to one of your own, or complicate your answer to a generic one.

As an example, instead of:

Q: First name of the girl you took to the prom.
A: Katie

Use this:

Q: First name of the girl you took to the prom.
A: Katie1234!@#$
or
A: KatieWAS$mokinHOT!

I'm pretty sure the account security stuff on my Google account is glitched up and unusable because it was linked to an old email account of mine that I deleted. So it's basically impossible to do any of that.

I'm sure this would probably be useful for someone else though, good tips.

Markelius: I have two youtubes on one email :D

NavyBrony: This should just be a general PSA, rather than a YouTube protection warning. ;)

I never use those and when I have to I write something non-sense like ": O" "really?" and so on, my password is way to simply to forget : P

Oh and don't use normal words/names as most modern bruteforce programms actually has a dictionary attached to it, mine even has the option to try *word*1-9 *word**word*1-9
(ex: mypassword1 mypasswordmypassword6)

If I'm not mistaken, this is the same way Sarah Palin's email was "hacked" (somebody just looked up simple information such as what high school she went to).

But yeah, the answer to the security question needs to be just as complex as your password, since both can be used to access your account.
I like to think I'm well-rounded because I'm not really good at anything.

Also, TWO FACTOR AUTHENTICATION.

Seriously. If you have a phone and don't mind the slight inconvenience, there's no excuse for not using two factor authentication.

Same way they got access to Paris Hilton's phone back in the day lol. The question was "what is your pet's name", which of course is public record.

Oh boy, that was FUN. I remember she had "GET BABY KILL PILL" in her personal notes lmaooooooooo

People were trolling all the celebrity contacts she had. I remember someone trolled Jay-Z's e-mail, and he replied "I just made another million in the time you wasted on this you dumb f***!!!!" pwned
