I almost love this song more than the actual game. I don't know why I like it so much, it just fits perfectly with the scene.

Songs from another one of my favourite games.

Couldn't decide between these two so I'll just post them both.

^That. The games have a few aspects that aren't so great, but the music is definitely not one of them.

Also, since people already mentioned Silent Hill and Pirates of the Caribbean, let's throw out some new stuff:

Most CAVE games have some great tracks and crazy final boss themes:
- from Dodonpachi Daifukkatsu Black Label

-from Ketsui

I love the Madoka Magika OST right now, though.
For example, this one for orchestral Ominous Latin Chanting stuff:

And this one, which is my favourite at the moment. I think I just really like strings music...

Well out the trilogy Empire Strikes Back is my clear favorite. Besides the main theme from the original there's the love theme, Asteroid Belt theme, Imperial March, Hoth speeder theme. So many different themes as part of that whole soundtrack and that helped the movie stand out as the best of the 3.

I also love the soundtracks to Trainspotting, Vangelis's Blade Runner, and Lost in Translation as some of my favorites.

Yeah, lots of good stuff in there. I've got a 4 disc box set for all 3 movies, so I sort of bunch 'em all together, mentally. That way, I can have the Hoth speeder theme and the Cantina Band :)

There's so many good soundtracks. Don't think anyone has mentioned Conan the Barbarian, for example, which really ought to have made my list. Awesome soundtrack, especially if you are traveling, as is The Last of the Mohicans one. And ones like "Backdraft" or "Requiem for a Dream," both of which had tracks heavily used in trailers. Or some classic Westerns like "Once Upon a Time in the West" or "The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly."

Too much good stuff, yay music!

Have a couple notable examples

I think I'm with Makkon on this, theres just so many great ones. Anyways, just finished Mass Effect 2 today and 1 the other day. Probably up there with Bioshock on list of my favourite games. Annoying I've gotta say I was disappointed with the music. I mean, it fit the spacey theme and all, but it was so generic in my honest opinion. There was so much that could be done. Being said the music in 2 was far far Better than 1, so I'm pretty excited to see what the 3rd has in store.

Besides that, Hans Zimmer will always be a favourite. What he did in POTC is so inspiring to me, I'm no theory scholar so I can't name how, but the soundtrack just feels so right. Zimmer has also done a ton of others which I can't name at the moment.
But I've gotta jump on the bandwagon with inception too. Awesome stuff (great movie too).
Halo 3 was great. Halo ODST was too, though I remember more of what a beautiful world that game had more than its music...

I've gotta say, I'm not a fan of 8bit. Chip tunes are fine, just not my cup of tea. I might be getting off topic, but when I play a game, it's not for playing it, but looking a it's enviornment and story. Though Nintendo and others have done wonders with graphics and low bit systems, they're still pretty limited. As is the music in them. I guess to some the simplicity is elegant, but I personally prefer something more complex.

Portal 2's soundtracks were particularly enjoyable. Valve has a very... Different composition team. They always surprise me with originality. Portal, Team Fortress, Even half life had some great songs.

The infamous Call of Duty franchise has some nice pieces, but when it comes down to it they're as unoriginal as the storyline. The game is made for fun, quick and sometimes mindless play. (and no, I'm not hating on it. It's still pretty fun).

Other than that I can't really remember anything. And sorry for the text wall, I've got nothing better to do.
But now wait I forgot about musicals...
Ah, I've bored everyone enough.

YUHS. I've never actually played Bastion, but a friend showed me some of its music the other day and I was kind of blown away by how cool it was.

WARNING. HUGE POST INCOMING. I wish there was a spoiler option for this forum, so I could take up less space, BUT I HAVE TO POST THIS ;_;

Alright, the soundtrack to Dear Esther was just absolutely amazing, despite the game being a bit more than flawed

So let's start that.

And then we move on to the Cry of Fear soundtrack (Which was an enjoyable game, but it definitely doesn't live up to the hype in the slightest. Also, Brandon 2 is best song)

Time to post Repo! The Genetic Opera stuff... I won't be posting too many songs from it, because spoilers, but yeah. Also, just a warning, some songs can be a bit explicit. But you guys can handle it, don't worry. (And while it might seem like spoilers at one or two songs I post, it's most likely at the very beginning of the film, so don't worry :>)

This is a mix of my favorites from different kinds of music, but I think you can count the tetis song as my ultimate favorite.
1988 (thats one year before the Gameboy came out :P ) C64 Tetris by Wally Beben
(holds the record for the longest continous song in a video game with 25 min)

Majoras Mask - the last 5 Minutes

Metropolis (Movie 1927)

Time Machine (Amiga)

Smiles and Tears (Earthbound)

and many many more :P

I make different kinds of music, often get told that It sounds like something for a Video Game because I make only instrumentals, never had a chance to make music for an actual game. I would love to.
