Question: Should I go ahead and post the track I did or is it made of too much fail for me to even bother?

Of course, post it. Just remove the ties to Balloon Party to avoid confusion.

Okay, if you really want to. I'm not responsible if you pass out from the sheer amount of failure though, so listen at your own risk.

The overall composition is good, but the mix sounds a bit muddy, and without any vocals, the heavy parts at the beginning begin to drag on a bit. Both of those are probably the main reasons why your song didn't make it.

That's the big issue with instrumentals though. If you aren't going to include vocals, you have to have some kind of instrument carrying a melody, otherwise the song ends up dragging on.

As a metal fan, I liked the thrashy riffs and overall composition.

P.S. Getting a song rejected is something most, if not all of us have experienced at some point. It sucks, but don't beat yourself over it. Unless of course Google(BOT) and/or Bing(BOT) get accepted, in which case, send your complaints to Skynet.

That's all I needed to hear. The mix was a bit muddy because a bassist friend of mine wanted to help out so I thought "Why not?", but I was always not so great at mixing, something I need to work on in the future, or in this case he needed to lower the bass volume.

As for the dragging on part, I kind of agree. I was going for a Seek and Destroy kind of opening, but I guess it fell flat.

I'm aware of that, I just have an inferiority complex and I tend to beat myself up over things like this. It's not your fault or Circuit's, it's mine. ^_^

Seems that hardly anyone but the top musicians made it. Blah. I shouldn't be surprised. Oh well. I'll go weep in a corner later.

I just wish the album was longer to accommodate more songs. 45 just doesn't seem enough for something this massive of a scale.

My god its like 60% of just the same top musicians. Not even fucking fair. All the effort that went into everyone's songs and we get kicked to the side like some subpar trash. It's not even the first time. Correct me if I'm thinking of a different album, but wasn't this supposed to let the smaller people shine?

Just because you have a DAW and a cool name doesn't mean you deserve to get promoted by others. Make your tracks actually good and it will get on the album? Unless you're suggesting the judging was unfair.

well, technically balloon party was supposed to represent the best of MLR

each song was judged by content not artist
actually, it's much like OCR, except not near as strict :P

so, when the best songs music-wise are chosen, more likely than not they will be by people who are more popular.

It's not a popularity contest guys. This is Balloon Party (best of the best and all that?)

if the best music happens to be by the more popular people, then it just happened that way. don't blame the judges for being biased or anything like that, I'm sure they were very busy over the weekend to pick the right songs

Oh wow there is gonna be so much butt hurt over this album. The purpose was to raise money. Be happy that you put a foot forward to try and help, whether or not your track made it, you tried for a good purpose, and maybe you made something you're really proud of. Plenty of people came out better producers, and I'm sure of it.

And if you weren't making the track with the project purpose in mind, and just wanted to get attention -- then it's good you didn't make the cut.
A fews songs in progress at all times!

Yeah, having a bit of a change of attitude, I mainly did this for fun, and at first I was disappointed I didn't make it (I should have expected as such), I had fun with my song. Though seriously, 60% already well known artists is a bit much, but I heard Omnipony didn't get in either, so it's not all a popularity contest like some others claim.

> The best of MLR

You just insulted all the orchestral people out there..the best of MLR hardcore EDM community, I can dig that, but don't disregard artists whose area of work doesn't match the criteria of Balloon Party, like so many orchestral, acoustic, trance, liquid DnB, house brony artists.

I don't mean myself, I suck balls, but I'm saying, Balloon Party isn't supposed to be "the best of the best" of MLR if it doesn't involve all MLR does. The best hardcore music, okay, that's alright.

And stop changing your opinions on the moment it suits you people, one day BP is a big community project, one day it's the best of the best, one day it's a charity to get musicians, I get it that it has all these elements but one of them has to be the main one, you can't shuffle trough them to fit your needs. In my opinion, it's a community project which brought together many people with an interest in "hard" music producing, and alienated many people without that particular interest, that's why I hope if there will ever be a future project like this, people who didn't participate in this one for the reasons of genre mismatch will have the oportunity to experience that BP feeling you guys seem to be talking about a lot.

i think the requisite is that you have to remove their affiliation with balloon party.

Nope, if you didn't make it on the Balloon Party album than you can't say your apart of balloon party.

Now that's just adding insult to injury. "We didn't like your song so we don't want to be affiliated with you or it." Where is the contract stating I can't say I entered, hm?
