<Pony><Remix> This Day Shall Reap

Ever since hearing this song, I wanted to do a remix of it. My only rule is just because something's dark, doesn't mean it can't be darker.

Comments, critiques, and criticism is much appreciated, as always.

I kinda don't like the way you bring in the vocals at :52, it just doesn't feel right, they are of course in sync and fit the tune but it just feels odd (if that makes any sense). The kick isn't in charge of the song and I mostly just sits out of the way and I didn't like that. When the dubstep basslines are playing the kick feels really weak and boring. I don't think the piano is 'dark' enough for the song (just my opinion) but it does sound good and I would like to know what you used for it.

The tempo changes were well done and the mix is great, I enjoyed the track a lot and what I wrote above isn't anything that will ruin the track just ways that I think could make it better. Great song!

The piano fades out its 1/8 note segment before the vocals come in, so perhaps that might be the off sound when the vocals come in. Other than that, I have no idea.

I pretty much gave as much punch to my bass drums as possible. My samples (or lack there of) just suck :P One downside of cubase's default instrument selection.

I could probably side-chain my kick and snare to the bassline, but that's the only idea I got to give it some more oomph in that section.

Lastly, the piano is from Nexus. One of the more natural sounding pianos it has.

*Edit: Here's an updated version with some slight changes.*

I think you should cut some of the pianos frequencies above 1kHz and boost the lower end a bit to make it more dark. The dubstep wobbles have too much high frequency resonance that really doesn't fit the song well, you should try filter it out a bit and making the low end rumble more. If it wre my song I would completely change the kick and snare design, the hats are great so I wouldn't worry about them.

I am loving the song so far, I can't wiat for the final version but take your time on it becasue the ideas in it are really good.

Ah crap, I already uploaded the last update I did on it. Oh well...

Those are some great suggestions I didn't think about that I'll definitely consider for future works. As for this version, it's already gone through 3 revisions before the final upload, so thanks to you, CGEyeGuy, and F3nning for helping me make this mix 3 times better than my original.

I adore this remix. It's so ethereal and dark, easily among my top favourites! :D

Especially that dark strings/pad in the beginning. The transition to active electronic genres was also smooth as silk. This is going to stay in my head for a long time! :)

These are my thoughts exactly, this is easily my favorite remix of This Day. You really kept the tone of the original intact and the dubstep is fairly creative (imo), and those pads are awesome. Great work.

It seems some people would like an instrumental version, which was not entirely unexpected, as I think most vocal based songs there's at least 1 person that want a vocal-less version.

This will give me a chance to change the drums around, and fix up the song in terms of what 4th recommended, in addition to changing the melody from the vocals to some strings.
