THE ALBUM IS UP! Listen to your heart's content!
Now a days, most things we go through are fairly predictable. We know we have work or school or don't, and we know exactly when this occurs everyday. Meals are planned in the same way, and your life normally revolves a schedule or pattern. Even most music is produced in a certain method, one that the musician is comfortable with.
Not this time, though. We're going to through all this planning stuff out the window! Well, in some ways, I mean. But, the point is, this Derpy's Wings album is focused on ditching that whole expectation thing out the window. We're not doing it like the last two where we ask you to do something new. We're still asking you to do this, but this is not the basis for this one.
This album, you'll be given a letter... A letter from Derpy. Of course, this wall-eyed mare isn't exactly predictable, and you're going to make music according to which letter you received. This will range from how you compose the song to what tone the song should be. You have full creative reins on these guidelines, of course, and we're looking for people to think outside the box big time to come up with something completely new.
Now, let's stop messing around and get to the rules.
1: First, you'll want to go here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1hoz ... sp=sharing This is the letter list. Pick a random number 1-15 and highlight just that letter on the list. This is now your assigned letter. Produce your song using the guidelines specified.
2: Next, go here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc ... sp=sharing This is the entry list. Go to the corresponding letter number and put in the name you want on the album and your contact info. If it's a skype contact, I'll add you to the DW Skype chat.
3: Doing a "pony" track is not required. It is encouraged since it is, of course, a pony-based album, but you do not have to shove ponies into your track to ensure it's accepted.
4: Collaborations are extremely encouraged. This time around, you even get an advantage. All members of the collab choose a letter, and the group can pick their favorite, or do them all if they'd really like. On the sign-up sheet, place your all of your names and contacts only on a single letter.
5: Submissions are currently due on April 22nd.
6: You can use any upload service you'd like to send us the link on the entry page, but make sure the song is in WAV format.
7: You may do up to two entries. You can choose letters for both of them right now, but I'd like if you finished one and then signed up for the next.
8: Even if your selected letter isn't too far from what you normally do, we encourage all of you guys to explore and expand your musical pallet. Try something new.
9: As cheesy as this sounds, have fun. This is a music album, not a music factory.
If you have any suggestions on how to improve this project, message me or any of the participants in the project. New ideas are always welcome.
When the album is released, it will be free but we hope for donations. The current charity is Heifer International, but we're still open to suggestions.
The title "Derpy's Wings" isn't just a title dedicated to one of the fandom's most beloved characters. It's a bit more than that. She's a background character, yes, yet she's one of the most known characters in the entire fanbase, ironically enough. Someone that sticks to the back of the scene still gets recognition, similar to how we want smaller artists to gain attention for their art. She's also known to have her signature crossed eyes, a symbol of being different from the rest. It's funny how this simple thing caught our attention. If a character like Derpy can be loved so much for being different, why can't we try to be different ourselves, even if it's in a different way? Also, her wings are important. Without them, she's still Derpy. However, her wings cause her to soar into the sky, pushing herself to the limits she has and then breaking them. Just like what we want you to do.
Push yourself and break those barriers.
