Man, that's awesome. There's something really compelling about running everywhere and getting across obstacles using only your body, but I'm not fit enough to do it. :C Oh well.

But only in places of it; there's still many nice places where you can walk around a little more carefree, and have fun without having to worry much about the people around you. You just need to stick to your street smarts and your gut instinct (seriously, if someone or someplace looks shady, listen to your gut and get out of there. You'd be surprised at how often it's right), and you'll be fine. Really, it's an awesome place once you look past all the dangerous stuff.
