80s Brony Rock Band take 2

Postby Pickslide1992 » 27 Aug 2013 09:04

A while back, I had the idea for a 80s rock band involving bronies, pretty much a brony Steel Panther. However, that idea never really came to pass beyond speculation and indecision on what songs to parody. Now that I have a new Skype address, I think it's best that I try this again, but this time we get a bit further and not focus solely on parodies, but originals as well.

I'm primarily a rhythm guitarist, so any other musicians/vocalists who want in on this please reply to this post. There's no hurry or deadline, but if you're at all interested, either reply to the post or add me on Skype (powerchordeps) and shoot me a message. Just let me know what you can do and a sample of your work (Doesn't have to be 80s, just another song you worked on)

Alrighty, folks, I have an original idea: A Button's Mom song but filled with video game innuendos. I just need a lead guitarist, someone to help with lyrics, and a singer.

Well we'll be doing a mix of parodies and originals, but the first thing I have planned is an original.

Before we get started can do we know why the last group assembled failed? I know it seemed to go in a glam metal direction while the other half wanted to go in a new wave direction (and there was some disagreements with covers v originals) but is that the reason why it sputtered out? I'd really love to see retro projects and virtual bands take off but I'd like to know why the last one failed and see a clearer concept and better organization this time around. Even if that's a revolving lineup based on changing the concept from song to song.

I know Mush is great on vintage keyboards and LoreRD could do drums and more. I know I'd much rather do new wave than glam but could help on either a bit (not really vocally). If this thing iis going to take flight you really are going to need a versatile strong male vocalist.

Love the button's mom concept. I am going to throw it out there that i have always wanted to do a ponified cover of It's Just a Fantasy by Billy Joel as its the perfect commentary on clop in a light heart retro rock tone. If that happens in my lifetime that would be awesome. If we need to reboot that skype and see if take 2 can work that would be great.

I think the last one fizzled out due to life in general. I got consumed with finishing school work and not paying much attention to the Skype. That and my old Skype is dead, so I figured why not start fresh on this new one?

Most of the same people are coming back like Warbalist. I really want this to work, but we don't have to stick with 80s rock, we can do new wave too (Since the line does get a little blurry). But I want to do originals as well as covers/parodies. I had another idea of a parody of Self Control (Laura Branigan) about Luna, but I don't know if the lyrics can be changed too much to reflect her since they already work on their own.

I'd love to finally work with Warbalist :D Any leads for a good male vocalist? I know a few females but its hard to find guys who can fit the bill. W/o a good vocalist we're stuck in draft again.

Well i bumped the old skype thread from months ago, feel free to repopulate it. But the key will be finding a good male vocalist who's good, available, and flexible. Most male vocalists tend to make all their music vs join bands.

OMG Pickslide did you want to do a parody of Rainbow in the Dark with Warbalist and his wife? That would be PERFECT for the Sleepless in Ponyville response. I've tucked that song parody away in my cranium for awhile. I can do keyboards + if you want.

Yeah, I posted that in the SOK III thread. I could do the backing track, Warb can do leads, and his wife and I can work with the lyrics.

The keyboard keys are REALLY easy. I can look so see what bpm and if i have good drums to use.

How you like these lyrics.....? (POV of Scootlaloo vs former song's 3rd person)

When there's darkness - you know it always bring me down
covering me and I see that it's me
Who's lost and never found
I cry out for Luna - I feel her floating thru the night
But it was cold - I've lost my hold
To the princess of the night

There's no sign of the morning coming
I've been left on my own
Without Rainbow in the Dark

Do my demons - will they ever let me go
When I've tried - they still hide -deep inside
Is it someone that I know
It's the Oldenpony- just an image caught in time
She's a lie - you and I
We're words without a rhyme

There's no sign of the morning coming
I've been left on my own
Without Rainbow in the Dark

When there's lightning - it always brings me down
The Headless Horse that I see after me
I'll be lost and never found
Cry out for Luna -feel her floating thru the air
But it's fear - That I'll hear
It's telling me beware

There's no sign of the morning coming
There's no sight of the day
I've been left on my own
Without Rainbow in the Dark

Look good?? ^ :D
