Another Aspiring musician

Postby Dabrenn » 11 Dec 2011 20:05

Hey, I'm Dabrenn and I'm hoping to get into some amateur Music Production and obviously Pony stuff

This is something i threw together in about 30 minutes in a moving vehicle, really the first thing I've ever coherently made. I've only spend maybe a grand total of 4 hours inside FL Studio mostly messing around with a different, more experimental track that's alot more chill, wobbly, and much less generic, I'll probably finish it within the week and post it here.

With all that said and if you actually read it, thanks :D.

Here is my horribly generic house-esque beat. No mastering, almost no effects, just obviously quick and made by somebody who is new. enjoy. Please throw any and all constructive criticism at me, I need it.

Welcome Dabrenn!
If you haven't already, I suggest when you have the chance going here and introducing yourself: http://mylittleremix.com/viewtopic.php?f=21&t=2

For a very first and quick song/beat, I'd say good job. Even without much effects or mastering, it was short enough it be quite interesting for the time.
I'm sure the higher-ups may have more to offer you for comments, all I can say for criticism is work on all the things you seem to know you need to work on and you should be on a good path. (Mastering, adding more layers/instruments, use of effects, etc).
Look forward to hearing more from you! If you need help with FL, there are plenty of people on here using FL as well (myself included, although I'm kind of still learning stuff on it too) who I'm sure would be happy to help.
Still searchin'.

wow! for a first beat thats pretty splendid! If you just added a sidechain compressor to it, you would probably be impressed of how it sounds. Not sure how to do it in FL Studio but i know it can be done!

Take my advice with a grain of salt as i too am learning how this music stuff works
English is my native language but it is defiantly not my forte.

Thanks both of you guys for the feedback! The problem is, I know what mastering is but I don't really know how to do it, along with I don't really know how to work with the fruity limiter very well and I didn't know what sidechain compression was until just now when I googled it. The other track I'm somewhat working on has more instruments and effects, I'm really just learning the program with it. I may post what I have to get feedback since this forum seems like it is full of people who actually want to help! Gotta love them ponies.

Hopefully alot of this will come with a little bit more practice. I just honestly don't know how to work the program, I'm looking into Ableton Live though, it seems like it would better suit my needs.

Hmm, I can help with FL Studio tutorials if you are going to continue using it. I have only been using the demo version, but I have learned a lot.
One of the things I have noticed in your track is that it reuses the loops a lot and that there isn't any backing melodies.
