<Pony><Nintendo64 Style> Big Angry Flutterhulk

I'm currently having a large problem to get the percussion to work properly (The snares and crash cymbal, grouped together in a soundfont called "Goo") As it keeps on muting itself and then playing randomly through the track, even when I just import the percussion on it's own. Fffs. The one you're hearing here is the one with a different percussion track altogether. (I kept the cymbal though.)

Anyway, this is a theme I made by thinking of some lyrics from the songs in the show (What is This Place, Hush now Quiet Now, and the tiny chant of "Fluttershy, Fluttershy, Fluttershy can hardly fly!") and composed it differently to sound like a boss theme with the idea of Flutterhulk seen in that episode being hostile.

The song is loopable but, due to frustrations with the pre-mentioned Goo percussion, I made it only render once due to impatience.

I prefer with the N64 soundfont version.

Sorry for having a short song, but school is pressuring me quite a lot nowadays. (Two people here on MLR suggested, with very good reasons, for me to put more effort and time to make songs, but I'm not used to long stretches while under stress from other things such as school. In summer I intend to either extend these songs or make better ones altogether.)

Criticism? Is the Timpani too loud (or a particular instrument just not right?) Also, is my style more suitable with the N64 soundfont? Or do I need to improve my mode of composition overall?

[Orchestral Version coming....tomorrow I guess.]

And the "Calm" or "Foreboding" version.

I really don't know all that much about orchestral music so I can't really say much.
I think you captured that sort of "UH OH, big boss upahead!" feel to the orchestral version. Or at least captured the scene in which you are fighting the boss.

The calm one makes me want to try and avoid her at all costs, sort of like a sleeping giant that I really don't want to mess with. Or like she is on the ground and I'm jumping across the ceiling or something. I think you could have put in some random pauses in this one, just to get that sort of ominous feel too it, like I accidentally slip a little and make noise, or she moves a little. I think that might have created the atmosphere a little more for this version.

Both are still pretty cool, though.

Oh jeez. I'm having a flashback to my rareware days. This sounds a lot like something out of DK64.

Yeah percussion sounded a bit off, especially in the calm version, it might've been the virtual instruments that you chose. Other than that, the instrument sounds that you used are really good. It sounds exactly like those old rareware games, I really like the calm version's instrumentation particularly.

Just an idea for the calm version, I think it would be really cool if you added a high pitched note to make an even creepier atmosphere like in this Banjo Tooie track,

Creeped me out as a child, still creeps me out now.

Whatever you decide to do this is pretty awesome, good work!

How's this for the calm version?

I changed up the instrumentation slightly, I also tried the high pitched thing you suggested, and I also removed the snares and used the crash cymbal at a low pitch to sound like heavy breathing >:3

Dude that's awesome. The high pitched tone really gives a foreboding atmosphere. You might want to mix it just a little softer to make it a little more subtle but other than that I really like it and the original Boss Fight version. Really cool and really stylistically in touch with the N64 Rareware music!
