Postby lyninx » 21 Sep 2013 18:47

i know its kinda late, but i had the song stuck in my head for so many days... so i decided to remix it. it's my first ever pony themed work, and if its well received it may not be my last.
thanks for listening!

I was like "wat even the freaking credits music got a remix", completely forgetting that the credits tune was "A Friend for Life" >.>

Sounds great to me. I like the slicing + bass at 2:51, should've stuck with that for longer. Deffo could use some sub bass there too.
oops I dropped the bass

will you pick it up for me

Oh man, I love this! Your sound design and melodies are so unique and pretty - I had the biggest, dopiest grin on my face at 0:43, haha. The contrast between the lighter upper sounds and the aggressive basses works surprisingly well, really nice touch!

Not a huge fan of the intro, though. The delayed background vocals felt a little jarring and out of place, off-beat even, and I feel like that kick could have crescendo'd a bit instead of coming in full-blast. Mixing throughout the song is good but not great. In fact my biggest issue with this track is that the drums are a bit overpowering, especially the snare - more of a volume thing rather than EQing, I think.

Overall I really, really like the general "feel" of this song. I mentioned the sound design and melodies which certainly play a huge part in that, but the chord progression works really well and the song structure is fantastic. Everything is really smooth and flowing - it's toned down at the right times, it climaxes right when it needs to, it's not too long or too short, there's just this really great sense of conservation of the song's energy if that makes sense. Particularly in EDM I find that quality of balance and structure is somewhat rare nowadays, so that really stood out to me. I'm very impressed, man, really nice work here.

thank you soooo much for the review! i really appreciate the criticism and i'm really happy that you enjoyed it! :D <3

here's my rebuttal:
the intro vocals are off beat simply because of the fact that they're run through a delay thats at 100% wet, and i also agree that the kick in the beginning is a bit too much, but to be honest, i don't usually put much thought into my intros. i treat them as mix-ins and only concentrate on making them easy to use in a dj set.

as for the mixing, it was kinda rushed, i know. i have some original tracks that i've been tweaking for months trying to get them to sound amazing, but i wanted this remix to be finished within a week. AND REALLY; dubstep snares are supposed to be skull crushingly loud! ;) hahah

thanks again for the review! now i know what works and what doesn't. hopefully i can apply this on my next project.
