[semi-pony][WIP][trance]LutariFan - Crescent Moon

(semi-pony because it was inspired by Luna, but contains no pony elements).

So I've been working on this for a while, but I feel like I can't get it to sound right. I'm a pretty new muscician and I don't really know all the tricks to making an awesome song so I wondered if you guys could help me a bit? :/

Mainly, what I would like help with is:

1: The main part sounds "muffled". I tried raising the treble of some sounds, but then it just sounded "piercing" in my ears.

2: Around 1:04 when the highpass filter drops down, it clips. I don't understand why, I just raised it then dropped it down :/

The end is also unfinished, I'm gonna work on that later.

2: Turn the quality of it down. The quality makes a resonance peak that spikes gain at a particular frequency, when you release high filter sweeps, that resonance peak is sliding down to the low frequencies where they end up clipping.

Okay, thanks, I'll try that.

EDIT: Um... on 2... how do I turn the quality down? Probably a REALLY dumb question but I'm dumb so....

You can use a drive on the synths. That's sound more colored.

This isn't what you were asking for, I know, but is this what you were going for with #1 up there?

Yea, that's pretty much what I aimed for. I think I have fixed it now.

next to the frequency of the sweep there should be a knob or slider or whatever that says either:
Q/Quality/Resonance
The lower the number is, the better off you are. I like to keep it around .4 so it keeps a little tone and upholds the lower frequencies more evenly.

To expand on this, the Q value determines the width of the frequency that is being effected, with a low Q being wider, and a high Q being narrower. In the case of a low or high pass filter, it will determine the slope of the frequency drop off. Unfortunately if you have your Q value of quite high, the steep slope will carry on up over the 0db line and cause a boost in the frequency just above the cut off point.
