<WIP><pony-tangential> Hacksaw (instrumental demo)

Postby colortwelve » 02 Jan 2013 14:26

So I've been working on a few albums lately, and last night I put together a rough instrumental demo for one of them. I'm interested in getting some feedback on the mixing before I hand it off to the guy I'm working with on this particular project.

Thanks in advance for whatever feedback you guys can offer! ^_^

Mixing is pretty good, I can't say much there unless you want me to really, really, pick it apart.

I think you could do better with the kick and clap. The kick is nice but it needs a little more high end to it to give it the presence it should have in a track like this. Layering a hi hat with a quick decay could do the trick but I will leave you to experiment with that. The clap has some awkward stereo imaging going on it as well as a delay, it is a little behind the mix but instead of bringing its volume up I would layer a snare over it to bring it out. I would also throw that snare though a stereo imager to center it.

The whole drum bus could use a transient shaper to bring it out just the slightest.

Very nice track, its bordering the professional level.

Well mixed bro ima with the4thImpulse on this one. Every thing sounds awsome but the only thing i would say is give the kick abit more more highs in the Eqs (the easy way but not the best) or layer a snap sounding one then mix the two. Sometimes i like to have three or more layered up to make a big full sound. Just make sure to Eq them so none of the signals are cuting each other out and a wee bit more bass but just a little to give you that real driveing feeling. The claps could be a we bit louder try puting in three one to the left one to the right and one in the mid put then put some reverb on the left and right ones to make them fit better and if you dont have one try useing a harmonic exciter makes the drums sound awsome.
XD
sorry if thats to much info and sorry for the bad english.
