<WIP><Non-Pony><Dubstep> Working Title.

Hey Guys! I've finished the skeleton to this song and I'm enjoying how its turning out. This is my first full step into the Dubstep/Brostep genre and honestly one of the first WIP's I'm fairly happy with.

Problem is, its missing some sort of overarching melody or theme: Primarily in the "breakdown" after the first drop section. I'd like to put some sliced vocals in there, but I really don't know where to start with those. I'm working in Ableton with pretty much no VST's that aren't free or aren't Massive. If not vocals, I can not find a synth or something I really like that fits there; if you guys could throw any ideas my way, or any feedback whatsoever I'd greatly appreciate it.

Also, it will definitely require some finished mixing and such, its very messy, muddy, and rough at some parts.

Really really interesting stuff here, a nice departure from the usual basic kick-snare routine that's everywhere nowadays. The percussive elements are imo the most interesting part of it, but I'm a bit undecided about the cymbals in the drop. They add interesting texture but kinda detract from the bass. But since its more percussive I guess the 'heaviness' of the bass isn't all that important.

About your suggestion of sliced vox, I'd be interested to see how they fit in to it all, but be careful about how they mesh with the rest of it. Like I say, there's a lot going on in there already.

And with the theme - I think it's largely percussion-driven which kinda usurps the melodic theme idea.

Either way you take this track, you've already got something really solid here and as it stands I think it's quite enjoyable and nice change to the usual dubstep/brostep routine.

Really really interesting stuff here,

Thanks man! Appreciate it.

I'm a bit undecided about the cymbals in the drop.

Yeah, they may be a little loud. I need a lot of noise in there to push the more fast-paced feel of the song, but those samples are a little.... obnoxious. I'll rethink the mixing there. Without them, the song feel more like its at 85 bpm rather than 170 BPM. I wanted it to feel very upbeat.

Like I say, there's a lot going on in there already.

Yeah, I definitely see what you mean. In the breakdown, its gets repetitive and there almost nothing in the higher frequency range, so I was thinking a little melodic line there could really add some interest.
