It's a public link, don't be afraid :3

I composed this all today, December 25th, comprising a total of probably 4 hours of work. Any and all feedback is appreciated (except "this sux lol" or "cool song bro, keep it up", ofc)

awefoawefh;oih why don't people use the public dropbox folder, took me ten minutes to download this because my internet is bad ;_;

I got my good headphones for once and I've decided to be extra picky, so prepare your anus.

Cool flute. Kind of a weird melody.

Flute gets totally covered up as more instruments come in at 0:15, could use kind of a lot of EQ. That one synth in the background that's playing either quarter notes or half notes (hard to tell what the tempo is at this point) in particular is needlessly powerful.

Again at 0:32, that organ sound just adds to the clutter.

Kick has a lot of mid-high to the point where it sounds like it's layered with a hat (is it?) and not enough lows. Subtractive EQ on the other instruments would probably fix this better than boosting the frequencies on the kick. Flute is almost totally inaudible at this point, which is a shame because it's a really nice-sounding flute and fits well with the song.

Buildup isn't terrible but it's kinda generic.

Powerful bass! Nice use of sidechaining, but it sounds like the arp synth is competing to be heard. Again, subtractive EQ on everything.

Same with that lead. Actually hurts my ears a little when that comes in. God, do I love that melody though! Works so well with the... everything!

More instruments coming in, I'm going to stop pointing out the EQ problems now. Just assume everything needs EQ and a lot of it.

Seriously, nice melody. I love that vibrato on the lead. Synth design in the background is also really cool.

Flute is back! Yay! I think! Still kinda hard to hear.

Drumline could use a bit of variation. I know the kick-snare-kicksnare thing is- oh wait, there we go.

Starting to get repetitive. There's only so much layering you can do and still call it variation. Switch up that lead's melody a bit, the one with the heavy vibrato.

Okay, song's over. To sum it up: lots and LOTS of EQ and a little more variation. This is really sounding pretty awesome. The synth design is unique and I can not get enough of that flute. Gonna be looking for more updates to this one, so please do not give up on it! :D

Aite, I like what we've got here. The melody is soothing. The buildup about 1/4th of the way in (where the kicks keep getting faster) is a bit generic. Maybe tweak the pattern a bit. When it happens again towards the end though it sounds like it's doing exactly what it needs to do.

The drumbeat seems louder/more present than everything else, it's kinda throwing me off.

The breakdown about halfway through (where there's the hard synth and whatever drum that is) is great.

That windy sound accompanied by those funky, fadey sounding drums at a rapid pace. I like those. They get their own solo bit about two thirds of the way through. Those fast fadey drums need more attention. It'd be great to hear more.

There's not a lot I know about the music you're doing here, so I'm just giving you what my ear is telling to me. Hope it helps.
In summation....

Wow... much more than I was expecting to get, which is fantastic!

I gathered that EQ is a major problem with this song, so I EQ'd EVERYTHING now, like I usually do (I forgot to do it on some mid-range percussion and a few synths, including that vibrato-ey lead).

As for the build, I'm not too sure what I should do... Maybe add a riser/reverse crash?

Alrighty, so here's a new and (hopefully) improved version, with the public folder thing:
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/95632350/untitled%20wip%202.mp3

Basically what I did is, as I said above, EQ everything, do a slight amount of mixing changes, etc. With regards to the actual song, I made the background synth that comes in around 0:15 a lot less powerful by increasing the resonance slightly and bringing down the volume. Now, believe it or not that synth is actually the same synth as the arp later in the song, so I did that with automation, which means that that 'organ' sound is a lot less obtrusive as well.

I made the lead less harsh on the ears and i think it fits better now. Arp is more clear I think. I allowed the flute to be in the forefront during the parts where it is present, hopefully cleaning up those volume problems you spoke of. Then, I changed the lead's melody during the last part where it comes in, where it seems like you said it was getting repetitive.

Words cannot describe how much better this is, hahaha. And I don't even have to download it!

2:28, the lead and flute are fighting each other. Rough mixing job there, the frequencies sound like they're right on each other, so good luck with that  . Sounds fantastic after the lead fades away, though.

Good job varying the melody at the end!

Right now I would focus on making the drums sound less harsh. There's still some general mixing stuff throughout the song that can easily be fixed with some tweaking - sorry I can't be more specific there, it's hard to pick out the exact instruments that are interfering with each other - but the drums are easily the most noticeable. Mainly the kick and snare. The rides and hats are kind of hard to hear at parts. What bigBerd said about the drumbeat (and everything else, actually) is good advice as well.

Alrighty, I think I've pretty much got the drum problem sorted. I was thinking that they were too weak whenever I tried to reduce the volume, but I finally got them nice and good.

As for that part at 2:28, I just decided to fade the lead out from the previous segment so that the lead and flute never play at the same time. Thinking kinda outside the triangle :)

And the buildups, I changed up the first one so that it's less generic, same with the middle one. Left the last one as is.

I think I'm gonna let this one sit for a day or two, maybe see what others have to say, and work on something else. I'll post another WIP after a couple days pass, hopefully others will post. If they don't, I'll just revive the thread with the new WIP. Also updated OP with correct link.
