<Nonpony> What I can do so far

Postby Kagetori » 03 Jul 2012 19:43

So I've taken everything I'm able to do up to now and put it into this test thing-
http://soundcloud.com/e9p3/demo-2
First is ambient-ish, second is... eh, I dunno, third is eurobeat/d&b inspired, last is acoustic.
I only don't use wubs for first and last parts.

EDIT- I changed it slightly on the third part, making the wubs more hearable.

I'm going to make a list because lists make things easy :D

1st Part - I wouldn't say it's ambient, but I can't really put my finger on what genre it is.
2nd Part - This is dubstep, but at this bpm it's a little strange.
3rd Part - This sounds really good IMO, but the melody seems really random to me. Keep in mind I don't listen to eurobeat.
4th Part - Definitely the best, sounds really good. I would like to see a full song that sounds like that. Also, I'm curious on what plugins you used for this.

Overall I think you have a ton of potential, keep it up :D

- That's why I said ambient-ish. That's just the closest thing I can think of.
- Technically it's not dubstep (or at least from what I recently looked up), but I never thought of it as that, so I guess it's pretty close.
EDIT- Are you saying that because the drum pattern is... umm... I don't know the correct musical terms of it or whatever (I don't know crap about music ironically), but it has a pattern of three of those big sections, when usually people make it in a pattern of two of those big sections... is that what you mean when you say its bpm is a little strange?
- I liked the third one the best myself, but eh. The melody in the third part is the same as the bass in the second part though (aside from the wobble bass) and goes just as fast, but it just "feels" faster and I guess more random because of everything around it... and the sounds I used for the main melody there. Also, I don't really care that you don't listen to eurobeat because I'm not really going for a defined sound, I just care that it sounds good.
- The fourth part was the easiest part. I only used the Sytrus "Trumpet" and instruments from the Touhou soundfont, but I "polished" them to make them sound more realistic. The sound I had in mind originally was reggae and mariachi type.

Also, acoustic arranges;

bpm means beats per minute (so basically how fast the track is being played). Dubstep is almost always played at 140 bpm so when its anything else it sounds a little off. I'm not saying dubstep sounds bad at any other bpm, but for me its just a little weird. Hope that makes sense.
