<Original><WIP>Spitfire

(Working title)

Inspiration struck, and then this happened. It is going to have vocals, so I'll probably be putting up a thread in the Sharing section soon. I just want some input on the composition as of now.

The mix is real rough and I haven't mastered it yet, but again, I just want input on the composition.

Um... The only thing on the top of my head that would sound exceptionally weird is the strings at the last chorus. I'll clean those up later.

But any advice at all I would love :D

edit: The 16 bar intro reprise is for solos, btw. I'll get to those later.

I hate to bump this, but I hate not having critique even more.

Ha, my post is getting a similar lack of critique ;) (I think it is because I put "Ambient" in the title :P)

As for "Spitfire" I like it. Its powerful and energetic.

If I had to pick a problem with it I would have to say the bass is a tiney tiny bit too powerful. I don't know if that's because i had it on full volume or not... :P The bass seems to be just on the edge of the limit of my headphones and is the type of bass to make my vision blur slightly. This may be a matter of person taste though...

The "problem" might be fixed once a highpass filter is added during mastering? Or reducing the lower frequencies slightly. ;)

I said the same thing. I've been tinkering with it for a bit afterwards. I literally through this one together just so I could get some opinions on it, so that explains a mix even worse than what I normally do :P I'll keep that in mind after I start "really" mixing it once I get vocals in too :D

It sounds pretty good, well composed and such. It's kinda empty and slightly repetitive, but that'll most likely fixed with vocals.

Yeah, another one of my downfalls. I'm changing the repetition around a bit each day when stuff comes to mind. Thanks for pointing it out. The more people who do the more I know to fix it

Sounds rather 80s. I don't know what I think of that. But as a track, it definitely succeeds in the one thing I've never been able to wrap my head around: Actual, good instrumental structure. So kudos for that.

That's probably the last thing I would associate it with  But that's very nice to hear someone say it has a good instrumental structure. I was honestly debating getting rid of the 2nd verse and replacing it with an instrumental section of some sort, but I think I'm going to keep it now.

When that synth at :21 kicks in the first thing I think of is Megaman, which is an instant bonus

The main problem that I have with it is that it's pretty repetitive at times, so you could probably mix it up more. I do like the strings you used in the end too, you should use them earlier on as well though.
Just my opinion though

Huh. Not much of an ending, from what I could gather. That was the first thing that popped out at me. Otherwise, a really cool song, only I feel that the kick should stand out more.

Also, during the silence that starts at 1:17 you could introduce a pad or some kind of sound effect to branch the intro with the rest of the song.

Just my thoughts.

Both the ending and the silence at 1:17 are both parts where vocals will be :D
