I think your use of white noise is fine. I really enjoy how you've set it to raise from a lower to higher frequency. It gets cut back on a bit when the instruments come in, but I think it worked well for your track.
I wouldn't say that the sub bass is too prominent in this track. You've definitely got a bass presence, but any deeper sounds than 100 hz are less than audible (other than your kick, which I like by the way. It sounds to me as though it has variety in its duration which can create a temporary sub effect, and that's very neat for a sound that's like purely the echo of cannon fire). I think either your sub is being out-shined by some louder high end frequencies, or your sub just needs a good ol' volume boost. Either way, getting a good presence in your sub means a careful balance of every instrument, done by adjusting volume sliders to make sure each instrument gets a decent presence, and equalizing your sounds to ensure that all your instruments generally have their own space.
Additionally, you might want to look into some other options (other VSTis) for designing a sub bass instrument. Some VSTis are either not meant to create sub or do not get across the powerful 50 hz sound you would want. I would recommend Subsonic if you do decide you want something new, but depending on what DAWS you work in, you may very well already have a VST that can create a very nice sub.
This track doesn't necessarily even need a heavy HEAVY sub, since its ambient design is already quite pleasant.
Ending is nice. It does stand out against the rest of the track, but its very pretty, and sort of begins to tell a story. You've left yourself something to build off! Very nice.
Some sort of ambient track definitely, but with a lot more percussion work than is typical of ambient.
