<Pony><Remix><Trance/house> So Many Wonders

Welp, after a long break from music using pony samples and mainly focusing on French House songs for a few friends, I'm back! And... Well... Yeah! I do think I might've mastered this one a bit... Hmph. It sounds a bit too low to me, however, when it sounds more like what I would listen to, people tell me it's too loud, and then it goes on my phone, and my ears die... So this one might have the perfect mastering :O!

I have actually had this song done for a couple weeks now... And two other songs... But I just mixed and mastered this one today, and I'll be doing that to the other two sometime soon (Nightmare Moon + Neurofunk seems to work quite well. But that's irrelevant.)

So yeah, enjoy it, hate it, tell me how bad I did, tell me how good I did, whatever you want.

At first I thought something was wrong with my audio card's EQs, but after making sure it was working as intended, I have to say that your kick is very, very low on volume and lower frequencies, while the white noise sweeps are too loud.

As usual, I will stray from commenting upon the song as a whole because I don't like to interfere with people's creative thought process.

Looking back at it... The white noise sweeps are a bit too loud, definitely. How I didn't notice this before, I have no clue :/ As for the kick, it was intended to sound really low, but still a little bit noticeable. And then I couldn't say anything else because I couldn't think of anything else to say. Sjes.

Soup, what do you use for playback? I gotta say I enjoy your stuff but it always seems to be lacking in the bass department which leads me to believe that you have listening headphones that cut the mids and highs, and boost the bass.

I love the overall vibe of this one, but I kinda agree with piedoom. Where's the bass?

Even more than the kicks being low, they seem to be on a compressor with the lead in the sidechain channel. Like, they cut out almost entirely when they coincide with the lead. Is this intentional? I guess it's kinda avant-garde if you're going for weird experimental chill, but if that's not the case, your kick should probably get a little more intensity to itself.

I have two different pairs of headphones, however, I'm not sure whether or not they're "listening headphones" or not. As for there being no bass in it, this was actually a quite simple song(Besides the main synth, that was a little bit of a bdajglb) and there was literally nothing other than that main synth you hear. Here's a little screencap to show you the simplicity of it.

Yes. That's literally it. I didn't really think something like this would've needed bass in the first place, anyways, but that's probably me just being dumb, like always. I could've just added a little bit of sub-bass, but I didn't really think it was necessary :S

Anyways, on the subject of bass, here's a little WIP. https://dl.dropbox.com/u/63501258/howth ... lanket.mp3 (Don't ask about the filename...) I'm going for a bit more bass for this one, but in all honesty, I can't tell. I'm still learning how to "correctly" listen to music(???), and I literally just started looking out for sub-bass in songs a little less than a year ago. Yes, I didn't even know sub-bass was even THERE for most of my life. Is the bass a bit more noticeable there? I know "Ink Splash" had a lot of sub-bass and other yummy things going on, but the sub-bass was literally not noticeable until later in the song when all that's playing is the sub-bass, piano, and drums. I had no clue how to fix that.

Oh, back to the headphones. I have the box for the ones I never use, and I might have the box for the ones that I normally use, which means I could just list down the stoof on the back, but I'm not at my house right now, so you'll just have to wait until tomorrow :>

There was actually no sidechaining anywhere in this song. As for the "Going for weird experimental chill", that might've just been the case. I tend to do a lot of things in ways that "normal" people wouldn't do them, and it has just become normal for me to do that.

Okay... Yeah. I have the specifications for ONE of the headphones. Sadly, it's the ones I never use... But if someone is SURE it doesn't cut out the mids and highs, and just boosts the bass, then I'll probably end up using them more.

Type: Closed, dynamic.
Driver unit : 9mm, dome type
Power handling capacity : 100 mW (IEC***)
Impedance : 16 Ω at 1 kHz
Sensitivity : 100 dB/mW
Frequency response : 8 - 22,000 Hz
And some other random thing that says "400 kJ/m(cubed. I'm not putting a 3 there because it won't be right >:C) high power neodymium magnets (wat) produce high-resolution treble and midrange with powerful bass.

Well, I... I don't know D:

Reference your work in progress, I really do like it, but... the kick just doesn't have enough power. You've got plenty of bass, but the drums seem to play second fiddle. As for headphones, I personally like to use Sennheiser products. To remove as much 'color' from the sounds as I can without pissing off all of my neighbors during the creative phase, I use a pair of HD 380 Pros, but then (and this is something I learned you should really do) I export the unfinished track and then I listen to it on a variety of sound systems. I use some HD 428's for general listening, then my Logitech speakers, and then I plug it into my truck's stock sound system, just to get a feel for volume levels and equalization across a range of products. It's very helpful.

I don't really have many sound systems to listen through. I have my headphones, and my laptop speakers. That's all. I COULD do it in the car, but I don't... For reasons.

ALSO, THIS IS GOOD YES.

Actually yeah, that's pretty awesome, getting featured. It's always a good feeling knowing your work is appreciated. It's also a great way to get a good fanbase, which drives you to keep on producing music.

Sucks about not having more sound systems to test your tracks on though :/
