<Pony><Original> Mindset - Solar Strives

Postby mindsetpony » 10 Feb 2012 21:30

Hey MLR, made another house song. This time its about Celestia, but it's implied. No sound bites, it's intentional. Enjoy :D

Software: Ableton Live 8.2.2, Sylenth1, NI Massive, FM8
Hardware : Macbook Pro, some altec lansing sound system, axiom 61 key midi keyboard, and a ton of power strips

BIGGEST issue is that you used the exact same synth as your last track Pinkie's Jam (on this track coming in at the 1:00 mark) and it really sticks out as it has a unique but slightly annoying sound (did you use it sparingly in Luna Eclipse too?). I really would stay away from using the same exact synth again in later tracks as there's loads to choose from or if you don't have them find more. It's a nice melody you have if but a bit simple a track so if you get a different synth in there in its place (please) and a little more complex structure or some tricks (builds, breaks, or yes samples (you did such a good job with Loudmouth)) I think it will take it to the next level. This is a great start but feels a little underdeveloped.

As much as I would not like to say it, you're correct. My sound design has been lacking lately. I used to take "sound design days" where I would sit down and crank out new sounds all day. Instead, I've been trying to crank at least one song out every 2 weeks, while doing quality control to make sure what i'm putting out isn't garbage (Loudmouth was actually in the works for about 3-4 months). I guess in order to get better I'll just have to take more time. It's a tough balance between school and production, so I hope people understand. I feel obligated to update with new material, though, now that I have all these subs. Any advice? I'm starting to think it all sounds rehashed anyway, and it's getting stale.
