Smile Smile Smile Guitar cover<cover> <remix>

Postby BronyMetalMix » 02 Jan 2015 11:48

Hey there every pony,

Happy new year to you all! Recently I did a Smile Smile Smile cover for my semester project at College. I do like the way it turned out. I do hope you all enjoy it as well. If you have any feedback as well, I'll happily take it. I'm looking to expand out into guitar more or combining it with my electronic music!

Thanks,
Note Wise

A little disclaimer before I start; I'm no good at music theory nor do I know what a music piece should sound like, so don't take my word for gold.

The notes are spot on, most of the time, though there's some awkward pauses between some verses. (If you were playing this IRL and somehow saving the notes on the computer I'd instead be congratulating you on only having just those pauses.) Speaking of notes, the pitch sounds slightly awkward about half-way on, as if the notes become slightly detuned. (I think it's just how the low notes sound on that particular guitar/soundfont/whatever you're using, in which case there's nothing much you can do).
I think you might have been getting a little impatient towards the ending, because the chorus sounds a little strange compared to how it played before half-way, as in timing and the notes. Also, in the chorus (0:24 - 0:43) when the notes are going down there's some misplaced note. eg in the original verse: "Because I like to *make* you smile"..... the "Make" is actually higher, but you made it go lower. But now I'm just nitpicking on unimportant details because it still sounds good as it is.

Something to work on perhaps is the reverb. (Even though I'm guilty of this too.) It would be cooler if you took more control over the reverb, so that notes that's are meant to be short can be cut short instead of trailing and interrupting the next ones.

All in all, keep it up!
