[rap][non-pony]Kushy Kallous - My set

Postby Kushy Kallous » 04 Apr 2013 10:21

This is my newest track,
and I was wondering as per usual
where I'm at in my production and lookin' for some rap critique.

Original beat: micdsk

I also realize that this is probably my third non-pony track. And I feel bad considering the theme and nature of this forum. : ) I still am recording pony rap, though, I wanted to take this lull in such as an opportunity to ask others for other sites like this one: Production Forums, Digital Music Forums, Remix Forums, or even Vocal Recording Forums. I know I could just google, but I wanted to get some first hand advice from some of the people that made THIS place as great as it is. : P

Thanks to anyone who takes the time to check this out. ; )
To judge ones intellect seems ignorant in reality.

I like the 'My Set' instrumental, but your Rhodes sample is all the way to the left stereo, and the drums are too soft and lack punch. I dislike the Rhodes doing the triplets, too. However, I'm diggin those background horns and symphony.

Try adding a spontaneous horn, like this one at (0:49)! Tonal Contrast is Cool!

I think your lo-fi sample should set the lo-fi mood. Try cutting off anything that's not 20hz-10khz with eq on the master mix. Also, keep the instrumental mono, not stereo, if you're going for old-school.
