<Pony><Original> A Chaotic Affair

Postby EverfreeLuna » 13 Aug 2012 03:59

So, I decided to try and create a theme for discord in a similar fashion to "Her Descent" except this time following the journey of discord. This is the result!
I was going for a powerful brass sound all throughout this.

I know the structure is pretty terrible but hey :D

Enjoy!

The only real criticism I can think of right now is the transition between notes for the supporting lower brass was just a little awkward (this could just be the sample itself, but if I was going to tweak anything, it would be that)
Also, I'm not entirely sure about that little tune addition at 42 seconds in, it kinda breaks away from the normal flow of the song.

Other than that though, I do like the bridges you have between the chorus tune. I also like your use of the woodwinds (I've always tried using them myself, it doesn't really come out that well), they remind me somewhat of the style of music used in Donkey Kong 64.
You definitely have something good going here :D

I really like it, actually. As it is, it's not really convincing as "real," but it still sounds great all the same. If you wanted to go for a more realistic feel, you'd have to automate some stuff and change up some velocities. As far as Orchestra stuff goes my experience is thin at best so I wouldn't even personally know what to do for a more authentic feel.

Still, I kind of want to do an electronic/dance version of this. Depending on how well I feel, and if it's alright with you, I may start on that tonight.

Like it :)
What I miss is Percussion instruments, they could give it a little bit more... rhythm :3
And maybe put a reverb on the master (2.5-3 secs maybe) so you get the feeling of a concert hall.

Sure, I was kinda thinking of moving away from trying pure orchestral and doing something a bit more... "Different" :D Crossing other genres with orchestral will probably be beneficial to me as I don't have an expensive fancy orchestral library. I prefer music with a simple idea so I guess that kind of rubs off on what i try to create... :P

If you want the midi msg me and i'll get it for you :D

I tried adding a bit of percussion but I felt as if i ruined it and I didn't want to force the use of percussion (I don't know know what I'm doing with percussion :D)
As for the reverb, I believe i was using the built in Miroslav Philharmonik CS Reverb but I left it on it's default values. It probably could've done with a bit more.
