ITT: Your first three songs

Postby [voodoopony] » 02 Sep 2011 12:08

They don't have to be the first 3 things you've ever bounced off software, but ideally they should be what you consider some of your first actual productions.
'NUFF SED.

1. Sunvibes
First song ever, made this as a bored 13 year old. While it does mainly consist of Garageband loops, I'm still surprised how much effort I put into the velocity of the drums and its sequencing [no delay or effects were used].

2. Sanctus
I used to think I was the shit and would be the next Venetian Snares Twin-Pusher in no time, and this was the hideous result. I messed around with AU delays and automation, and blew out my speakers several times in the process. The end is a sample of Sanctus by Michel Chion.

3. Bad Actors
Cheesy number here. I feel like remaking this into some retro-hipster-esque dance track, like Cut Copy.

My first song was a loud annoying hardstyle song that was really just 2 minutes of me fucking with Massive's default preset. The second one was a remix of Drake's "Forever" that I gave up on for sucking too much. Unfortunately, they're gone forever.

So I'll start with this!

Giggle At The Ghostie (Aussie Remix)

I suddenly decided I wanted to make pony songs, so I pirated TOTALLY LEGITIMATELY BOUGHT Nexus, and shat out this. I gave up on it right where it ends, though I plan on completely redoing it sometime. This song introduced me to Circuitfry, who kept giving me feedback on Ponychan while I kept fixing and tweaking everything. He also made a remix of it, that I really need to find now...

For The New Lunar Republic (Aussie Remix)

You all know my opinion about this song, I don't make it subtle. I sincerely apologize to Notclev, and all the people with raped ears.

Afraid To Get Dirty? (dblue Glitch Abuse)

A bit better IMO, but I still had no idea what I was doing at the time. Made for the first Toastbeard. I made a preset in Massive and ran it through dblue Glitch, and then sampled Rarity. That's it. Producer of the Year, over here, fellas!

I pretty much started composing as the final grade for my Highschool theory class last April... Haven't learned a thing In a classroom about music since then (Except for class piano... but that is because I don't know technique for playing piano).

1. Originally played by a live ensemble. I don't have a recording though :[

2. This was my first attempt at a Speed Composition. I gave myself two hours and a theme. The theme was to derp around. Not really inspired by... but I mutilated the name of a piece I liked called "Sure on This Shining Night" by Morten Lauridsen. (you can google that if you'd like)

3. Second attempt at speed composition. Theme was to express myself. Still two hour time limit. It was three AM at my friend's house at a gameover... and no one had eaten. I notated this on his finale and sent the .mus to my computer on skype so I could actually have this song when I got home.

Prepare yourselves. This will be painful. (Note, these are the oldest songs I could FIND. There are some even older ones, but they've been lost to the annuls of time. They were mostly midis).
