Pony Kart Racing WIP

Postby penguindf12 » 30 Aug 2011 15:53

Here is a track for the upcoming Pony Kart game -- so far it's just piano, unorchestrated, but I wanted to get some feedback before moving on. I'm unhappy with some parts -- see if you can tell where they are. One major fear is that it isn't propulsive enough in the second half (this is a RACING game, after all).

The level it'll be used for is Trixie's track, so I gave it a Banjo-Kazooie bounce for much of it (magic = witches, I guess?).

If you're after a banjo-kazooie feel, stick some phat Tuba beats underneath...that pretty much sums it up!

As for this, I think make the pulse more clear in the whole piece, as it is kart game music!

A doctor of dissonance.

Yup, you pretty much hit the nail on the head! I was going for a "dissonant buildup to a transition" at 25-30, but I didn't execute it very smoothly. Same with 100-104. Hmm...

I'm of the opinion that extended dissonance is undesirable in a kart racing game, because it's distracting rather than supplemental to the experience.

Otherwise I don't have much feedback to offer until you have an orchestrated version. :[

If it isn't as catchy as a really catchable ball, then it's probably not the best of things.

Dissonant stuff is really uncatchy.

Hmmm.
