Made this while waiting for laundry.

Postby SwissArmyCheese » 24 Aug 2011 19:24

While waiting for a load of laundry to finish I remembered some words of advice form the internet: Don't think. DO.

So I sat down, And did. Or didn't.

Here's the result!

http://soundcloud.com/kaasp/barbra-streisand-duck-sauce

It's a little short but hey... It's my first remix.

Please tell me what you think!

But I thought since as a new member I'd make a little something to show you guys what I like and so far what I can do.

All criticism is welcomed! As long as it's polite criticism.

Nice idea, but a bit of fail whrn it comes to performance.

1.) the samples appear glitched <in a bad meaning>, they are like a broken cd, not the way sampling should be, seamless

2.)it's basically more than 70% of the mix just one bar played over and over

I give it 3/10 + 1st remix bonus = 8/10.
But don't worry, i tells ya, my first remix was so f***ed up, it would be a shame to post it

Thank you for the reply!

And thanks for the "First remix bonus", that was a nice boost!

I was going for a bit of a glitchy feeling but I guess I got stuck in the middle between. In the bad "neither here nor there" spot.

I know it's still pretty bad but I feel like leaving it for others to see. Usually I'd get discouraged but i'm sticking with this. I want all the advice I can get.
Hah, Now i'm afraid of what other replies wil say. :?

It's actually even catchier than the original song, IMO. Bartekko has a point though, the sampling isn't very "smooth". And it does sound like you just ran a few bars over a glitching-up VST and called it a day. But it's really good if that only took you, what, 30 minutes? If you put way more time into your songs, they'd be awesome!

But remember one thing: The Hoover Rave sound was created by accident, Turntablism was first used to stop music, and hear your own mother telling you to stop raping their ears (look up turntablism) and glitching overall was inspired, well by a broken cd, that made a rhythmic pattern.
You should look up "gotta go home" by boney m, or "hallo bimmelbahn" by nighttrain and mess with that sample, however impulse is an impulse, and if you gotta work with what are you given, then do it.
A bit of Time stretching would make that remix way better, but it's up to your DAW if it allows for time stretching.

It's interesting, to say the least.

I kinda liked the glitched sample, but there was obviously too much of it, unless you wanted to do glitchcore, but you weren't :D overall I'd say not bad, but need more of your own love to it, it sounded very similar to the original IMO and needs more of your changes to it.

So if you're going to actually re-work it make sure to extract the best sample possible, that's why I linked you to the original songs. Make a fair intro, and the rest should go by itself. I would use lots of speaker on/off, some progressive crushing, reversing some parts and all the basic edits my DAW has to offer. then... I'll upload tomorrow, (or even today, I love oversea communication) a my own remix, and encourage everypony in here to do the same, so there is shown how it is possible to remix a simple song in many different ways. I'm sure that would give some advices not only to you, but to everyfilly on the forum.

i accidentally wrote "make sure not to extract the best sample possible"

Thanks for the response!

I actually just dl'd a bunch of vst's because I was thinking "I need a little more of my own touch if i'm going to make a remix."

Unfortunately lately i've been having trouble getting inspired/thinking/paying attention etc.

And by the way Pinkie Cake, very nice job on " Do You Like Bananas?"

WOW, thank you for going the extra mile. I seriously appreciate the help!

I'll hold off on re-doing it until I get a little more experienced, so i'll just practice some more.

Thanks again!

I just like to help people a lot, when it comes to music.

My style of remixing is to change the melody, not sound, but sometimes add a bunch of fx

Ahhh, Finally got home to listen to it.

How long did it take you to make this?

It's got some sweet fx and i'm guessing dblue maybe?

I also enjoy the drops! Very nice!

it took me about three hours of insomnia to make. I used dblue maybe twice for the tape stop and crushing of first "barbra streisand". the rest of glitching was made with manual repetition and speaker on/off. for the drops i used volume automation. not much else to it. if it took me 30 mins It would be only the intro, drop, 2-minute sustain and breakdown and it would be more than what duck sauce worked on while "making" this song
