<original> Equestria Awakens

This is just a (very) short song that I wrote, this time using a standard notation program (instead of FL 10). I'm still learning the ropes of the program, so...... yeah, it's not that great. It's quite basic (and suckish) actually.

But it's what I feel a good morning in Equestria should sound like, if mornings were made of music, that is.

Constructive criticism is appreciated.

Yeah, about the cello... I guess I'm not really familiar with the program's dynamics (a huge problem I had, btw), and once the cello hit some lower notes, it got blended out and lost its apparent volume. (The program's Sibelius, btw. And I can't really be bothered to read the instruction manual lol).

I'm not sure what you mean by spacing the strings, though... care to fill me in? :D

Ahh... now I get it.

Hmmm... yes, now that you mention it, it could do with a bit of work in the mixer (which I just now realized sibelius could use to change reverb and stereo effects. Oh, well, it's a learning process I suppose). :)

Another thing I'm noticing is how different the music sounds on different speakers. I'm using my somewhat decent quality headphones most of the time, and forgot to listen to this on my crap earbuds. The stereo is really not great on the buds, so I'm wondering what this might sound like at a variety of sources.

Finale 2011 is a lot more competent of a DAW than Sibelius. I think the only reason you would want to use Sibelius is for quicker and more intuitive notation! Even then it's probably only worth it if you already know what you want it to sound like and the easy part is committing notes to paper.

Welp, compared to Bose QC3's, my headphones kinda suck. I'm using v-moda crossfade lp's; just because I saw them in my local store and couldn't really afford anything else. They aren't the best headphones around, but they're good enough for me I guess. :/

Hmmm... finale 2011... welp, I'm not totally sure about what I could do about that now that I already have sibelius lol...
Still, I wonder. What makes Finale a better DAW?

Better plugin support from what I've seen and human playback.

Human playback pretty much automates your song for you, so you don't have to noodle with volume and velocity and whatnot that much.

Usually human playback does exactly what you want it to do, if not there are ways to manually edit midi data in finale, or you can send the midi to another DAW like cubase to edit it and everything will still be the same midi-wise.
