(original)<nonpony>[music video] Society

Postby Codeum » 16 May 2012 16:26

This was meant to be a silly project I did while I was on a short vacation in NY. Me and my brother (hes the talent) put everything together. I made the music, recorded his vocals, directed, and filmed the video, he wrote the lyrics, rapped, and performed in the video

Now that I review the video, I think it will look super good on my portfolio. So what do you guys think of the production value?

Then people end up "drinking pills" that they probably have no business drinking.

you stated the truth so i stated the truth about you. I wasn't trying t bruise your ego by calling you an asshole. I was stating that you were being an asshole. I don't even know why im bothering arguing with you.

I liked some aspects of this and disliked others. Partway through watching the video, I read the comment above it, and realised that the things I liked about it was everything you had done, and the things I liked about it was everything that your brother had done.

Overall, it's not professional (I admit, I don't see the things I make as up to a professional standard either), but for a two-person project, that was a pretty decent job.

I feel like musically it lacks contrast. The backtrack stays mostly the same and isn't significantly different enough to create interest. The vocals are mostly the same throughout and it ends up being boring.

As for the video... I don't exactly know how to say it other than everything seems awkward.

Kyoga wrote:because you're still trying to bring your ego up. even by a little bit.
and I don't honestly care if you think I'm an asshole.
I gave you exactly what you asked for. an opinion.

and trust me when I say that there's no bruised ego here. I deal with kids like you every day.

but enough about me, this is about the music.
so i'm going to ask this.

is there any aspect of my feedback that you disagree with?
if so: why?

Its not your opinion that makes me think you are an asshole, its this part right here:
"you can get hurt about my opinion all you want, but I don't respect music that i've heard before.
so, honestly, I'm challenging you to write something unique. Something that i'll hear and recognize
as new, special, and worth of my time.

if you're interested in why I commented on the video in the first place, it's because you shouldn't have
to bump your own videos. There's probably a good reason that noone's bumping your videos (or commenting on them for you.) I'll let you decide what that reason is."

Completely unnecessary commentary that puts you off as rude and just trying to instigate.

waitwaitwaitwait wait just a minute,

ok, here's how I see it. Judging by what I read in the comments (haven't seen the video yet - give me a moment), you and your brother have created a song that is very similar to mainstream rap music, both in musical styling and lyrical content.

Personally, I hate rap music.
Scratch that, I hate mainstream music.
Here's why:

Today, most modern music follows similar lyrical content. Usually involving drugs (which includes alcohol), a club, a breakup between the performer and their significant other, or time in prison.
Either that, or it specifically references the music itself in some kind of self-glorification.
Or trying to get a girl. Or just plain stupid. (in this case specifically thinking of "Sexy and I know it" by LMFAO)

When this plays thirty thousand times a day, it gets old.

So I'm gonna guess that your song contains something to this extent. which will kind of explain why Kyoga said what he did, we hear this stuff all day and it pretty much all sounds the same. To be honest, he was a tad bit (quite a bit) brutal in saying so, but there was truth in what he said

Okay, let's all shut the fuck up about the drama, stop having feelings, and talk about the reason this thread exists: The fucking music, and our respective opinions and perceptions thereof.

Codeum, I know you know how much I love your stuff, and the instrumental end of this is pretty much the same quality you always output, but I can get Kyoga's point about the lyrics being the same thing everyone's heard before. It's just not original, and while it works as a proof-of-concept that you can make hip-hop beats, it's just like deadmau5' track 'Failbait,' it's nothing new on the grander scale of music in general, just a producer trying out something new to them.

Regarding the video, I mean, it works for what it's supposed to do, but in terms of 'production value,' it's nothing special, it's just a video of some basic, I dunno, music video stuff. (Forgive me for not being more interested in the end you were more keen on receiving feedback on, I'm just more audial than visual.)

I understand guys. I made this with my brother for two reasons. #1 to spend some time with my brother who lives on the other end of the planet from me,
#2 to build my portfolio
The genre and video content doesn't concern me. All I care about is showing potential employers that I have credibility, skill, and the motivation to produce quality work for them. Not letting personal bias effect the quality of a person's work is a very important deciding facor of whether or not a person gets the job. that being said, I don't care what your view is on the content, but rather, your view on how it was put together.

Just to ninja in here... I feel like you actually got some constructive criticism in between all the fighting (in case no one noticed), and now you're dismissing it as not the type you care about?

There are some things I'll never understand.
