Pinkie Pie The Party Core (WIP) (Need help/feedback)

Postby SirVaria » 29 Apr 2012 12:09

Hello~! Me and my friend is new to the whole MLP music thing. We went together and made a track here~

Now, we have a little problem. We both agree that it needs something. Something in the background, maybe some instrumental changes. If there's anyone of you who'd maybe help us out by giving some constructive feedback or give some suggestions to how we can spice it up a bit, we'd be very grateful~

Here's the track:

DAW: FL Studio 10
VST's: Ohmforce, Massive, Sylenth1
Currently working on: Stuff.

Nice! :) One way to spice it up is using spacious effects. Reverb and delay. I'm not perfect but this is how I usually go about them:
-vocals & leads: First delay, then reverb
-pads: just reverb
-hats & occasionally snares: just reverb
-bass and other low end stuff: nothing! Only as a single reverberated kick but never all the time.

Use these sparingly. It's supposed to change how the song sounds but they shouldn't be too noticeable. When done correct the song is never completely silent and sounds more full.

All I have to say is that it sounds really cute. It is clear that you are new to music but it doesn't sound bad at all (way better than my first attempt).

Mike is right you should put some slight reverb and such on the drums and the vocals. I wouldn't suggest going by his normal rules though. Most of the time you just have to use it where it is needed. Furthermore do I never use delay in the vocals and the leads unless its volume is automated to vade out while it is playing.

The biggest problem with the song is that overall, it is kinda boring. Don't try to make a nice little tune, try to create something you think you would listen to. The border between a song being a chaos and refreshingly innovative is a really hard one to find but you should always try to get as close to the "chaos border" as possible without crossing it. In this song I would suggest some variations on the melody, perhaps some different melodies and maybe some different synths.

Anyway good luck!
