All right, because Shadow of a Flower doesn't already have enough remixes and because I like it a lot, I decided to remix it as my first foray into music.
This may be my first song, but don't hesitate to rip it apart with your criticisms and whatnot; I've gotten used to the pain .
Ok people need to respond to fit time posters as its frustrating when that's not the case. It's hard to pull out any specific instruments from the mix. The vsts seem rather good. Overall I like this but its very mild in places when it should hold your attention consistently. I wish it was bolder in places as the instruments only get loud when they all all blend together at the swells. Hopefully some of my orchestral members wil have better critique for you.
Yeah, the whole song sounds... I dunno how to call it. Kinda mushy, not very defined. The arrangements sound fine to me; they're powerful when they have to be powerful, and contemplative and calm when the song calls for it. But then again I know jack about orchestral. :/ So really, the only thing I would advise on fixing would be the mix. Make sure that you're EQing everything, and cutting out frequencies that you don't need in there, or that obstruc other instruments.
Still, it's a very impressive work! I wish I could do orchestral.
Hey, thanks guys! Guess I really need to get off my butt and make some acquaintances here and there!
Man, didn't realize how bad the mastering was until so many of you pointed it out to me. I did things the amateur way by throwing in as many instruments playing everything at the same time, then praying no one will notice how bad it is but turns out it kinda backfired.
Anyway, thanks again! I wish I could do electronic for my life :/
What I notice first is the underruns, and after that is the very effective arrangement. What this tells me is there is a great piece there, but it just needs a little spit shine. I feel like I'm listening to a rendition by the Berlin Philharmonic being played on $5 speakers. EQ and mixing will make this many much times better.
Heh, that analogy made me laugh. Mastering is always what separates the good tracks from the bad tracks . You can have all the top notch VSTs with all the bells and whistles and it all comes down to mastering :I
