<Pony><WIP> Black alleys of canterlot

This song is something i'm currently working on. It is going to be used in a project one of my friends and i are currently doing. It is like you might guess a detective type song, like the one used in old detective movies.

I tried to give it a jazzy feel, but at the same time try to make it a bit different. I've never done anything like this one before, and i could really use your feedback here.

What do you guys think? What should i change, what is good etc etc.

Ah, good. It was the Style and overall sound of The composition that worried me. :)

Well, the organ certainly is a new take on the old detective music. Not to say it's bad, but it does add a lot of feeling. To find things to criticize though, I have nothing. As far as I know, most of the 'detective' music (Pink Panther, etc.) have been mostly feel.

The song you've put up has the air of an old speakeasy filled with the both the top of the town and the suppliers of their ill gotten alcohol. The band is playing, as per usual, with the mood to move you up and down the dance floor. Whoever the main character/detective is is sitting in a corner and smoking a cigar while drinking gin. The goons of the 'bosses' and rumrunners are eyeing him, but not making a move. And all the while, there's a 'dame' looking at the snoop from across the room.

I say you hit it spot on.

As well, is there more? It's really good, and I bet you could turn this into some sort of longer track.

I like it, but the organ and what I think might be a guitar don't really fit, *IF* you're going for old detective movies exactly. They're fine musically, just not something typical of that genre.

Yeah, the guitar and organ were something i wanted to try out. I'm not sure if i'm going to keep them or not. I might, bit i'll see.
Thanks for pointing it out. :)

I like this, it's got a good groove to it. Sounds like it would be the soundtrack to a film or something.

Oh, I'm liking this a lot! Very groovy. The instruments you used are fitting very well.
My only problem (this is from my point of view, mind you!) is that some instruments are a little short, and cause some silence-gaps a little everywhere. Not sure if that's intentional, but perhaps something you might want to look into otherwise.

Other than that, this is sweet! Keep up the good work!
I love music, and this show. I hope that my stay here will inspire others just as you inspire me.

I love this actually. Very very jazzy, in the corny sort of way (not a bad thing). Only complaints would be the trumpets are a bit fake sounding. That's cool if you're trying to go with that, but it struck me as odd...

ah well, fantastic job as usual :D

its got some good style to it but just not sure the instruments are working for it, they're a bit too midi. like the the snapping though.

can look through http://rateyourmusic.com/list/TheScient ... y_fi_music
and take a listen to some originals to see what you like in the original style and see if you wanna co-opt some retroness on any revisions.

This totally reminds me of something that'd be in an old point and click detective pc game. Definitely got that sluth vibe going on. The trumpets do sound a little thin, but honest I like the vintage pc game feel they give it. Can't wait to hear more.
