Greetings one and all, I am relatively new to this site and this is also my first time posting anything pony-themed and/or musical. I am open to all criticism.

And yes I know my voice sucks. XD

Hi! Welcome to MLR! ^^

I like it! Different from what we usually hear in the community.

Criticism-wise, if you aren't recording yourself perform with a webcam or something, there's no shame in recording these separately! If you have at least two mics, you can mic the guitar and vocals separately and record both at the same time, but otherwise, you won't get the best sound quality recording both at the same time. There's something called the proximity effect, where the closer you get to the microphone, the fuller your voice sounds. Right now, I can tell that the mic was some distance from the guitar amp and probably your face as well, because it caught a lot of treble from the guitar and ended up not sounding as full as it could have.

Also, breath support and being closer to the mic will make your voice sound better! I know, at least with me, if I don't talk directly into the mic, my voice sounds tinny and young, but if I get closer, it becomes dramatically deeper. And if you take deep breaths and support your breath with your diaphragm (really your lower abs, around your gut, but I won't get too much into that), you'll sound a lot fuller in real life, too.

Glad to be here, and glad I finally *something* to give back to the community. Likewise I am glad you liked it.

It is sadly a webcam mic, sadly the webcam doesn't work. Just the mic.

And to the rest of what you had to say, thank you for the input. I have a feeling that I am going to need all of the advice I can get my hands on.

Ah, this is wonderfully pleasing to hear. I don't have much to offer in the way of criticism or advice (at least, I can't say anything that ryan hasn't), but I can say you've done well with this. Keep it up.

Emotive, sturdy, and well balanced. I say get yourself a nice mic set up, and you'll be going places my friend.

Thank you both very much, these are without a doubt the finest compliments I've ever gotten in regards to my musical playing. :)

@Makkon, GOt any suggestions on what brand(s)/type(s) of equipment I should be looking for?

Is that stopping you from recording separately?

That was very enjoyable and I bet those fixes are really going to make it shine!

Have you played Bastion? The tune sounds similar to the menu music of the game, that only makes it more awesome though.

Ah, this is lovely! It's refreshing to hear something like this. If anything, aside from what has already been suggested, I'd advise to tighten your playing a bit more, especially those arpeggios. I know they must be hard to play (I know I wouldn't be able to pull them off half as good as you did), and you did an overally great job on them, but they still feel like they stumble over themselves at times.

As for equipment, if you're serious, but like, really serious about getting into recording, I'd suggest getting at least a microphone and an audio interface. That way you'll be able to get your voice and guitars into your computer with fantastic sound quality.

for a webcam mic that sounds really quite nice. try doing it in 2 seperate recordings; vocals and guitars separate and see if that improves the overall recording (with some EQ'ing as well). Since it must take some energy to do both at once, your vocals and your guitar playing could both improve when your focusing only on one. overdubs on vocals always help if you wanna go that route (blend 2 vocal attempts). Its so hard to find a good mic without going the expensive route that you might as well test out your current recording arrnagement to its maximum before deciding if you NEED to go that route. :)

Nice to hear someone going the organic route and getting good results.

No it hasn't actually, I started working on that last night with mixed results, still tweaking things here. I was fortunate in finding out that the mic on my laptop is actually capable of doing stereo recording. Not sure yet how I am going to work it just yet, but I suppose I'll have to think of something.

I haven't played Bastion but I have heard some of it's soundtrack. I think it has some amazing music. Likewise I am grateful that you liked "Rise and Shine". :)

This is a good idea, it will allow you to focus on one thing at a time and you will have the option to tweak the individual recordings.
