My impressionistic piece (Ponyville Bliss) was well received so here's some expressionism! It's a harsh and dissonant piece that conveys the conflict and anguish in Celestia's mind as she banishes her beloved sister turned Nightmare Moon to the moon.
Darkness - 0:00
The Piece starts out with harsh chords to show the anger and jealousy coursing through Luna as she refuses to lower the moon and turns into Nightmare Moon. It continues into an a minor melodic line to represent the sorrow and fear in the ponies while retaining dissonance in the underlying chords to convey a feeling of darkness.
Conflict - 1:04
This section contains two keys, F major and G major, fighting each other in escalating conflict to represent the conflict between Celestia and Nightmare Moon.
Torn Soul - 2:05
This section dives further in atonalism and shows us the anguish and pain in Celestia after she banishes her sister.
Joy and Sorrow - 2:42
The final section of the piece includes a descending major line in 4/4 time to represent the joy of the ponies from Nightmare Moon's defeat. At the same time, the right hand plays a frantic line in the 3/8+2/4 time from the last section representing Celestia's continued anguish. This is also represented in the last two chords. The F major represents the celebration of the ponies through the Summer Sun Celebration while the quiet D minor represents Celestia's pain.
