So here's a recently revived swing/jazz (not really sure what to call it) project, with Pinky Pie samples, which I intend to submit to the Equestrian Legends event.

Still a work in progress. The song ends abruptly because I'm not really sure where to take it from there. Any feedback and suggestions are welcome.

Also if you're wondering about the song title. While I was putting together the samples, I inadvertently made it sound like Pinky Pie was saying butt crack a lot. The original song title was "Pinky Swing", but then I thought "Pinky's Butt Crack" was a more attention grabbing title XD!

Well, first of all, change the arrangement of her voice. It sounds very disturbing hearing her say "butt crack," you can keep her voice the way it is if you want, but I just think you should change it. Also, her voice sort of clicks each time she says something, try putting fade on it, or smoothing. The beginning sounds very bland, not much going on. Try putting a little more melodic elements in there, or just don't immediately open to her saying something, maybe slowing bring in her voice with a filter or just volume automate it. The beat also sounds a little upbeat and fast for it to even be considered jazz or swing. Slow things down, the best way to test for jazz is rhythm and mood. Imagine a small town diner back in the 50s and 60s at night, what kind of music would you hear? Smooth, calming, and relaxing, the sax, which I assume you tried to replicate, is too high pitched and monotone, jazz saxophones have more of this sound.

Also, there wasn't no rhythm what so ever with pinkie's voice, usually people make a small melody when they are chopping vocals, like this. I would try to rearrange her voice to make a melody, I'm not good with vocals, but I know that much.

There also seems to be now definition to this song either. It's just high pace drums, fast bass plucks and pinkies voice, only near the end do things get a little more interesting with that ukulele or whatever that starts to play.

Overall, I think this needs alot of work, Esp. the vocals, I was having a hard time listening to it with me hearing "butt crack" throughout the song. And it the song could use some "muscle," or a little more structure in it, and if you're going for jazz, I recommend listening to some swing jazz, or some funk music to understand the genre better.

On a lighter note, you've inspired me to make a free flp consisting of vocals. I put out free flps every now and then, usually just some electro drop, or some calm build, dl them if you want.

Thanks Guthey I really appreciate the feedback. Yeah when I first made this song I was just starting to get into jazz/swing music so I guess you could say I was naive in the sense. I'll probably start from scratch to see if I can get a real groove going. I've also been playing with the idea of doing an album because I really want to explore the genre. We'll see.

As for the tempo, my original inspiration was Hey Pachuco by Royale Crown Revue, so that was what I was going for. I guess big band would be a more appropriate genre to label it?

I look forward to the vocal flp.
