<pony><trance>Sonic Rainboom - Let Her In

Postby ph00tbag » 26 Nov 2013 19:42

This is one of my tracks made for the Voxel Brony Modpack. I have to do uplifting stuff a lot of the time, so I've had less time to work on psy stuff. :\ Oh well, melodic trance is certainly fun to make.

Feedback is as always appreciated.

I listen to a bit of Psytrance in my everyday life and this has got that sweet bassy feel of Scorb and Vibe Tribe to it. I've always admired how psytrance is able to make so much out of so little, and this one is no exception.

Issues I might find with this track:
The kick could perhaps have a tine bit more mid to it, to make it sharper and stand out harder when the tunes really ramp up.

Aaaand nothing else. Nothing at all. I'm in love with this. It gives me that nice summery feel, and really reminds me of the Summer.

Thanks a bunch. It's funny how my psytrance background always tends to find its way into my more melodic stuff.

Yeah, I still kinda struggle with getting my kicks just right. I tend to have a blind spot regarding mids in particular. I'll keep an eye out for it in the future.

Oh dear. You caught me. This track definitely had a different melody before that fit a little bit better, but was too saccharine for me. I wrote new melodies that were a little more wistful, even if they didn't quite fit. With perhaps some lack of foresight, I liked what resulted and kept it, despite, or possibly even because of, the conflicts. Maybe not the wisest course. The intro and outro suffered from a similar problem, although to be fair, that section is supposed to be a little jangly, and isn't really supposed to have a set chord progression.

Mixing is something I'm still working on in general, like I told Injustrial. I know that one of my main problems is I try to put more into tunes than they can handle, especially in my uplifting stuff. I'll keep that tuning stuff in mind in the future.

Fwiw, I definitely made all of the synthesizer bits from scratch. I don't even have any presets for my stuff.

(idk if that's what you did, but it kinda seems like it)

I guess I can see that. I usually actually build my synths specifically for each tune. I do know the bass is playing a pattern in C while the rest of the tune is in F major. This may be what's leading to the confusion. In hindsight, maybe not a great idea. The FM stuff could possibly be out of tune as well, but tuning percussion is something I'm still developing an ear for.
