<original> Nightmare Night

Postby cyrricky » 01 Jan 2012 04:56

Let it be known that this isn't a remix of Glaze's track with the same name. My deepest apologies if that's what you were expecting.

This is a remix I did of the MLP main theme. It's the first dubstep/brostep/whatever track I've attempted, and I did my best to make it sound completely different from the original song.

Enjoy, I suppose :3

I've heard this before on EQD, Loved it then, and love it now. Fantastic use of vocals, it's so eerie and interesting to listen to.

Though I was half expecting it to break out into the Nightmare Night festival song at some point.

Yeah; I was playing this in mixes before it was even on EQD; a friend linked it to me. I think I still have it saved. I should re-evaluate the waveform and see if I can't slip it into a few more playlists.

Wow very different and good too. Well done as it really sounds nothing like what you sampled but you still recognize them. Great job.

might want to put this as <original> as its not a remix of the well known brony track of the same name (which is what people will logically think). When sampling something but the end result is so far removed from what you started it really become an original piece. Up to you tho... ;)

I liked it! Great use of vocals and I really liked that sound you got for the wubs!

Personally, though, I felt that you could've led up to the drop a little more to make the drop feel heavier or more dramatic. Right now, it just sort of happens. And then, you could've added some higher synths and stuff to break up the wobbles. As it is, the one thing holding the song back is that it kinda drones on with no real variance to keep things interesting, so see if you can break it up a bit. =)

Advice taken

Alrighty, first off, thanks for the praise/constructive criticism, man! It's always a huge help. I've found that I'm actually quite rubbish at drops, so that's what I'm aiming to work on after I finish what I'm doing now.

As far as droning on, I have to agree. In the version that I have on Bandcamp, I changed the second drop a bit. Variation is another hurdle I've got to clear (and I know absolutely buck-all about music theory).

Thanks again!

My god man, that was good. The synth you used was, just, wow. Did you use Reason for this? Please please please tell me you did, because I really want to learn how to make synths like that.

Yeah, I used Reason 5 (I haven't upgraded to 6 yet because I'm a terrible person).

I could teach you if you'd like.
