Working on Something New

Postby Navron » 23 Dec 2011 23:50

So, naturally working on a happier sounding sound for awhile, in addition to the craziness and stress the fandom has had to go through over the past couple weeks, I basically decided to take a lot of pent-up stress and put it into song.

This was originally intended to not be a pony song, but for some odd reason, I couldn't stop thinking of (dare I say it) Cupcakes, while working on it, so a lot of the creepy/disturbing feelings that story gave me has crept into the music, and I think I will end up splicing some samples and other parts to make the song about that story we all love to hate.

Anyway, this is a very rough cut so far, and many parts and transitions have not been added yet, in addition to the second half of the song.

I wanted to start off with something heavy, hence the distorted bass. The melodic section needs a bit of work, and the next distorted section (from the beginning) doesn't have the melody in it yet because I scrapped the melody I had, and left it blank while I figure what to do with it.

The next section with the altered distorted bass is where I will establish the second part of the melody/continuation of the story, adding in a little bit of a psytrance influence with a running bass line. Take no mind of the string melody that's in this section. It's there to help make sure the melody I put there matches up with the melody in the beginning.

Anyway, I'd like to have gotten this a bit more finished first, but I do hope to get some feedback on the different segments currently in place, aside from what's already mentioned above.

Hmm, perhaps an easier way to sum up the WIP:

Right now it totally sucks, but is there good stuff in there I can work with?

lol not sure why but 0:17 - 0:50 i picture Fluttershy/Flutterbitch walking through Ponyville knocking over all the ponies then at 0:50 - 1:28 Fluttershy stops in her tracks as Trollestia flys towards her. Then Trollestia gives Fluttershy a nod of approval and then 1:28 - 2:35 she continues knockin' all the ponies over.

and now for some constructive criticism.

maybe you could add a glitch saw lead or something that pops in and out of the song.

Wow, certainly not a genre I'm particularly familiar with (or entitled to give feedback about) but I actually found myself enjoying this song quite a bit! Aside from its stark repetition, you've got something pretty interesting going on here.

I don't really know what else to say about it. I would like to see your attempts at happier songs, but I'd also like to see what you might come up with by developing this idea here a bit further!

Well, I think I've found I don't really fit into a particular genre, lol.
