Ponyoverture (Work in Progress)

Postby Trixie » 23 Dec 2011 21:39

Hello, everypony! Just coming here to ask for some help with my current work in progress.

http://soundcloud.com/thegreatandpowerfultrixie/ponyoverture

Quite a long preview, at 9 minutes and ten seconds, but I guarantee you the finished version will be a few times longer than that. So, yeah, please, any suggestions, advice, tips...share them! It doesn't matter how small they are, every little bit helps, and if there's anything that you think could be improved (well, something can always be improved but that's besides the point...), tell me!

Thanks in advance, and hope you enjoy that 9 minute preview.

Oh, and- I guarantee you Ponyoverture will not be the final title for the song.

I found the the first 3 minutes a bit...weird...like, it didn't flow as well as it could have!
It felt like it was a bunch of pieces and arrangements chopped up and hastily glued together. When changing instrumentation so frequently, think about how they connect as well as be unique to the other respective sections!
Another thing involves using accidentals correctly (yes there is a method)! In the way you're using them, they just sound like it was played wrong. The way to use accidentals is to either:
a) Base the entire harmony on accidentals!
b) Use the accidentals to lead to somewhere else!
Also, those pizz were odd because they were louder than most of the ensemble...pizz aren't that loud usually...:P
Everything after that was quite cool though! Particularly liked that Super Mario Galaxy Style synth at 3.06!
Tubeyou
You are the hero My Little Remix deserves, not the one it needs.
So we’ll hunt you. Because you can take it. Because you’re not our hero.
You’re a silent guardian of music, a watchful protector of songs.
A doctor of dissonance.

All taken into consideration, and thank you! As for the accidentals, if you mean in the first three minutes, yeah, I agree they sound quite odd. The first three minutes are purely "Find a Pet" and those strange parts (ie - 2:30) were supposed to represent the talky parts...but yeah, they sound strange and will have to go xD. Thanks again!
