At The Gala (Rainfall Mix)

Postby TheSunAndTheRainfall » 10 Dec 2011 18:31

Okay, so this is my first remix ever.

I just finished mixing it a while ago, and while I realize the mix could definitely use some improvement, I released it anyway because I've started freaking out over it not sounding OMG PERFECT, and if I spent any longer tweaking it I probably won't be able to sleep tonight. True story.

So please, pleasepleasepleaseplease, let me know what you think, and where I could improve. ANYTHING you have to say about it is greatly appreciated.

Ooooh I like the music a lot, reminds me of Air or The Beloved (a good thing). One thing I'm not sure of is whether the vocal samples really work with it consistantly. Some vocal combinations just don't see to work as well as others (most improve further into the song). Maybe alter a little more as the later vocals seem to have effects added in for the better.

Any reason why the style change and channeling James Blunt's Beautiful in the last third though?

Thanks for your comment. c:

I guess you're right about the vocals, there were times when I'd try something and even if it didn't feel exactly right I'd just leave it there because I couldn't think of anything else to do. :/

And about the James Blunt thing... honestly, that was completely unintentional. Hell, I had to rack my brains for a while to remember the song you're talking about. And well, I put the style change in there to counterbalance the moodiness of the first two parts, especially the one right before it. I was hoping the transition would be less jarring, or otherwise out of place, though.

TBH, I would LOVE to hear hear the instrumental/backup voices only version of this. I think the solos work okay, but the real strength of this is the underscore and backup voices.
RD fits though!

Yeah the music itself is phenomenal so either tweaking the vocal samples which sound off (only a few of them stuck out and mainly near the beginning) or removing them (in a more instrumental fashion like Makkon said) would take it to the next level. Understandable that you were unaware that you were using a recognizable melody (too many songs out there taking all the available melodies!!), you could change a few notes there too and not face the same response from others. ;)

Thanks for taking the time to comment guys, I really appreciate it. Now I know what to look out for next time I try something like this. c:

As for an instrumental version, do you mean something like this? I just left in a few distorted vocals throughout: http://www.mediafire.com/?7p2caa5h5vaeqoe

I agree with pon-3 about the vocals, mainly around the beginning, and Rarity at 1:50 ish, but the actual song itself is superb. I love what you did with the background vocals though. 3:30 onwards is awesome. I like how you've not tuned the vocals and instead fit your song around them rather than the other way around. That's very difficult to do, and you did it well. =)

EDIT: my apology the melody was Adam Ant's Wonderful (different and much older song). Forgive my original comments.

That instrumental is great by the way (hopefully what Makkon wanted) although please don't hesitate to tweak the vocal version as it was 90% right on. :) Either way i hope we see more from you. :)

Thanks guys. c: Yeah, I just listened to the remix again after a couple of days of not even thinking about it, and whoa. When it ended I was just like "whoa, what was I thinking", I even half-assed the last bit just to get rid of it and... it didn't quite come out as I would have wanted it to. But what's done is done, and I'm still pleased with it, and have learned a lot from making it.

Thanks for listening and giving your input. c:

@DJ-Pon3: Aw dayum. You're completely right, they're the exact same chords. I totally ripped off a song without even knowing, haha.

yeah vocals dont seem to fit perfectly but for your first remix it sure is a lot better than mine was! simply put, vocals are hard to remix i think. the beat is pretty good too! with all the instruments and synths! i like it!
