Canterlot Castle (Original)

Postby Radiarc » 14 Dec 2011 00:42

"This song was inspired by the picture.
I don't know why, but this is what I thought of when I saw that picture.
Sadness.
Perhaps the first day Celestia had to lower the sun and raise the moon on her own...
All I know is that there's Mourning in Canterlot Castle."

It's not awesome like the stuff you guys make, but I gave it a shot.
I captured the mood as best as I could...
There isn't really a story; I just wanted something to fit the picture.

I think your interpretation fits very well!

As far as musical nitpicking goes though, some pretty sexy counterpoint going on! There is a bit much repetition (not that repetition is a bad thing) though, and I'd recommend adding more contrast to your pieces in the future! I love the ending. Looking forward to hearing more from you in the future!

As for the repetition, I originally didn't have the chorus so long.
I added a bit onto it because I didn't really like the violin of the verse going into the violin of the chorus.
Not only that but I liked the way the chorus sounded, but you're right -- and thanks a lot!

I suppose I should stop uploading so late; it's easier to notice mistakes in the morning.

One thing you don't want to fall into though is making a bunch of sections that sound COMPLETELY different and stringing them together and calling it a song. Repetition still has its place, you just need to find a good balance between repetition, variation, and contrast.

(keep in mind I'm nitpicking)

I will most definitely keep that in mind (nitpicking is fine -- I want to know what I can fix so I can improve in the future).
Again, thanks for the feedback on this, since I don't usually get much.

On a side note, I'm trying to actually play the chorus on piano...
It's rather tough, but I'm pretty sure I'll nail it by tomorrow.
Maybe I'll upload a video of that =P
