<pony><remix> Polychromatic (Cover)

A little introduction real quick: I'm trying to put myself out there primarily as a vocalist. It would be wonderful to learn more about music theory/production, but I consider that to be further down the line; right now, I want to focus on making covers of songs, popular or otherwise, and perhaps collaborating with people eventually if I place myself out there enough, before tackling my own original music down the line.

This is my fourth and latest cover: Turquoise Splash's "Polychromatic".

It sounds - yeah.

I've definitely progressed since I started a month ago, but my inexperience still shows. I got a critique on Pony.FM from someone who said my vocals sound "painfully off-key, emotionless, and flat".

I'm taking it completely in stride (given that I need critique like this if I'm going to improve), and am taking lessons to improve my vocals. That still leaves, however, my editing skills which I'm hoping to have some feedback on. Once again, the only thing I own here is my voice, so bringing it out is of greatest importance.

Right now I use Audacity: recommended by no-one, except by one Brony musician who has been a great help to me. He says I should stick with it until I'm "ready" to move onto another DAW, akin to training wheels. I trust him, and I have been getting better, but I'm questioning if I should move onto other DAWs.

I'm also looking to get my hands on Melodyne: would that be helpful to me?
