(Canceled) Derpy Swings! (Spin-off of Derpy's Wings)

Postby Coloriot » 30 Jul 2013 16:49

The brony community is most known for its music, and most commonly, electronic music. Sitting at the top ranks are people like The Living Tombstone, Glaze, and Alex S. But sometimes, someone has to wonder...

WHERE'S ALL THE JAZZ!?

I mean...yeah, we have Swing Tavi Swing by Joaftheloaf, but that's about it. The brony community obviously needs more than that.

And that is where you come in.

The purpose of Derpy Swings is to bring the brony community more jazz, blues, and just plain swingy music. This isn't going to be a big album, more like an EP with 5-10 songs. People who have been on the previous Derpy’s Wings entries, as well as people who didn’t submit in time, or just want to be a part of Derpy’s Wings are encouraged to join.
If you only make electronic music, don’t worry. We’ll also be taking genres like Electro Swing, Bouncestep, and Tombstone-style.
Tutors are back! If you would like to apply for a position as tutor, please state so in a comment below. Tutors are basically there to help you get a grasp on things, like what a certain genre sounds like, how to use their DAW, etc.

AND NOW FOR THE RULES!!

1. If you would like to participate, message the creator of this album franchise, Tuner, your Skype name, or just comment below (tunersymphon) You will then be put in the group chat. If you need further contact, email to [email protected].

2. Since this is a Derpy’s Wings entry, it is highly advised that you try something different. Whether it be a new DAW or a new genre (which you’ll probably already be doing), do something out of the ordinary of your regular music-making process.

3. Songs must be 'swingy' in a sense. Jazz and blues are highly recommended, as well as electronic music that has a swingy vibe to it.

4. Songs are advised to be pony related, but we’re lowering our restrictions on that.

5. Smaller artists are more likely to get on than bigger artists. Yet just because you’re a small artist doesn’t mean you’ll automatically get on. Make your song of good quality first.

6. Collaborations are highly encouraged.

7. If you need help from a tutor, please message them directly, or via Skype. If you don’t have their contact info, let me know.

8. Submissions will end September 28th and the album will be released by October 12th. Get your submissions in by then.

9. Upload your track as a WAV to Dropbox, Mediafire, Soundcloud, or Google Drive and send to the email specified above.

If you have any suggestions as to improve this project, please let us know. We’re open to ideas.

When the album/EP is completed, it will be free, and, like the last 2 times, all donations will go towards autism research.

Logos will be added eventually.

The title Derpy Swings has nothing to do with Derpy.

I would love to do this! My friend is also a Saxophone player too! But I don't remember if he bought it or rented it? Still I'll try to work on this but like "Derpy Wings 2" there will be no guarantees.(As I didn't have much time on my hands to complete my track for that album. :( )
My influence of music is mostly from Syd Barrett And Of course the Band he Started "Pink Floyd".

Suddenly my project for Derpy's Wings, which I wasn't able to make the deadline for, has a second opportunity.

I guess that works. But note that not everyone who participates is gonna get on. We'll judge first on quality, then on if it should be truly deemed 'swingy'.

Uhm... So, if I send something in, I can be sure that I'm getting on?

... Uhm, okay I guess, that helps with the waiting for the final verdict, okay.

Actually the opposite. If you send something in, and there's too many for an ep, we'll pick the tracks that most closely relate to jazz. So if you send in something that's swingy, but not necessarily jazzy, there's a chance you may not get on. Did that clear it up for you?

Yes, I understand now :P
I think that I can make it kind-of jazzy.

Let's see how far I can get with this.

Unfortunately, my Saxophone Friend Rented his Sax.. :( Well, I do have a great Idea for a Blues Rock song that would be built on Improv. and have Emphasis on Electric Guitar and Bass. So basically "Led Zeppelin" Sounding with a Bit of Grit/Rough in the Guitar playing. Would something of this sort be fine? Because if not then I have nothing else I can do for this Album. But I would love to participate!

1. Is this just on the existing DW chat or is it a new one?
2. If there's lots of people going "I'd enter this but I don't know much about jazz" I could do a brief "how to do jazz basically but not in depth" document if that is helpful?
3. If anyone needs an alto saxophone or flute player I might be able to help, depending on time.

Great c:

Here's an old demo of the cover; I've been meaning to do it for a while :P Probably will work on the composition (pretty boring right now, and needs moar swing beat) and retaking the instruments so they aren't so off sync lol
