I think the best idea would be

ZIQ..
Respond to this weeks theme being:
..............
OR last weeks episode which was:
..............

Synchlisten = normal ZIQ times on saturday

cutie pox. it's worse than you thought.

here's what you missed:
sounds: http://toastbeard.comli.com/pony/a/ERS06/
words: http://pastebin.com/5gy53sSJ

next week's theme: ...ok here's what I've decided to do:

THIS WEEK, we're going to have a dual theme ZIQ: <theme> -OR- respond to the episode. (not to be confused with XOR ;)

the sync will be on SATURDAY

but here's the question / preposition: NEXT WEEK, run a duel theme ZIQ again, but with an additional 24 hour ERS, ending on Sunday some time around 2 or 3 pm EST (7 or 8pm britian-time)

advantages:
-This allows a compo while the episode is still really new and exciting and such
-brings back the idea behind compos in general: write music fast.
-probably some other stuff

drawbacks:
-possibly too easy to flood the thing with troll entries
-really short timeframe limits who can enter (hi cats)
-probably some other stuff.

good idea / bad idea / thoughts / opinions?

BEST TOASTBEARD IN A WHILE.

Also, I think it was Voodoo who proposed the theme of a collab (ie. RWIII challenge). That'd be a ton of fun.

oh yeah. let's post some (obvious) news and (less than obvious) plans:

news: youtube disabled on all compos for now.

plan: I've gotten rid of youtube not just because it slows down the sync, but because it doesn't allow downloads.
I'd like to phase out soundcloud for the same reason...but that's going to take a while (because distractions and also school for me!)
once I properly fix the current default mp3 player, I'm going to move the entire site to a better host that allows >2MB uploads.

As for ERS: I'd like to make this an optional 24 hour compo IF MORE THAN ONE PERSON ASKS FOR IT.
that or if the new episode contains a new song.
(not sure what to do with it really)

Phasing out soundcloud -> more youtube

more youtube -> longer queues

longer queues -> double queueing

double queueing -> stacked loads

stacked loads -> Insta- Play

Insta-Play -> shorter waits

wait....

longer queues ->shorter waits
woooot

The on-site player screws up (broken link) a lot more than Soundcloud does.

bartekko: no youtube either.

solarsail: that's why I'm going to fix it before doing anything. (or rather, fix it properly.)
<_<

i-pie and aussie: ok, maybe not completely phase out, but I'd like to make it possible/preferable to upload straight to the site.

some train of thoughts that I can't organize:
>it's possible to disable download on soundcloud
>soundcloud has a 2 hour limit (which can be bypassed by deleting old songs, which in turn can slowly disassemble archived compos)
>stuff

^ This.

Let's give your fixes some 'beta' time Sci, before we commit to removing Soundcloud altogether. Aye? I'm still a bit wary.

I'm in favor of phasing out soundcloud as soon as you can get all the kinks worked out with the on site player, having tons of soundcloud embeds makes my browser run really sluggish. =/

on one hand, it dies because of you guys using characters the parser can't really handle

on the other, fixing the parser is the solution for that.

sloooow down, one step at a time.
soundcloud isn't going anywhere just yet. in fact, nothing is happening for the next week or so (because finals for me).
these are just what I have planned for the future.

also +1 exactly what zorg said.

also I'm looking at bumping down the max number of entries / person to 1 or 2, to shorten the syncs and reduce troll entries.
so starting next week, 2 entries/person max

WAT compo

YEAH I've been meaning to do one of those, I just can't decide on a time to run the compo (and its sync) <_<

Interrobang my chest hurts so much from laughing, because of your "ZIQ16" entry.

Cue entries from "Inter Pierrobang, no relation"

Should be 1 entry/person, the trolling has gotten to the point where i no longer enjoy synchlistening to these, it's also scared one of my friends away from wanting to participate.

I-pie is right, there should be no limit.

Ideas:

- Only max two of your submissions are played at the synchlisten, but there is no limit on submission
- OR: entries can be tagged as [troll] and those ones aren't played at the synchlisten

Although, there have been some troll or semitroll entries that have actually been potential contest winners. Some of I-pie's chiptune work in supposed troll entries is actually great.

Or maybe we should just continue as we are now.

Without troll entries, Toastbeard would be a little on the boring side, frankly. The amount of troll entries is always outnumbered, anyway.

You can normally judge which tracks are and are not trolls too. The troll entries may have almost no description, OR IT'S DESCRIPTION WRITTEN ENTIRELY ALL CAPS. If that doesn't work, try this - all serious entries are uploaded to Soundcloud whilst the troll entries use the file uploader (there are exceptions though - I Love Everything and Rainbow's Blood use the opposite)

And regarding the entry limit, I actually have more of a problem if there are too little entries rather than too many. I don't mind staying up.

I should point out as well, limiting the number of entries won't necessarily improve quality. People can still troll with their 1-2 entries a week.

More over, my entire toastbeard this week would be ruined if that rule had already been implemented. Worst. Possible. Thing.
