Yo, Kheoz, how about an update? Everything still going according to plan?

Also, have you had a chance to answer the questions I asked earlier?

It seems that a lot of people are rushing to finish their songs. Maybe it would be good to extend the deadline by a week or two? I'd also appreciate some extra time.

I could use a deadline extension for sure. What if this was extended until late December? Cuz then we could release it for the new year and I would have some stress off my chest because of school

Could something who has Skype please ask Kheoz to extend the deadline? It doesn't look like he checks MLR much at all.

Okay! So I spoke to Kheoz on Skype, and he's agreed to an extra 2 weeks

Kheoz: I could probably do that. And I have all the submission information ready, but I've been so busy, I haven't had a chance to update date anything ;_; I've barely been online at all these past couple weeks

Kheoz: So I'll do an additional two weeks. If you need more time than that, just let me know. I guess pushing it out that far, I'll assemble everything, and upload it all on Christmas or something cool

Kheoz: I'll try and update as well, as soon as I get the chance. hopefully by Thursday

So that's that. We have some more time. Let's not waste it haha :3

Woo finally have a WIP of the song I initially intended to do for this!

...well, a WIP that's actually worth showing due to the other ones sounding terrible :3

Thanks :3

I was trying to go with less of a country style and more of a Led Zeppeliny feel which will hopefully come across a little stronger later on when i've done the chorus and bridge. I suppose it's a good thing it comes across as countryish seeing as I'm doing Applejack haha. I think this one i'm currently doing fit's her a lot more than my last one

Love the rain and storm stuff during the beginning. It has a really epic, 'This-song-is-going-to-be-powerful' atmosphere to it, and where you left it off at the end there feels like it was going to get bigger again kind of like you were leading it to some kind of bass droppy thing (if the style of music you were planning on doing has that) or something, which could be a good thing to do maybe I dunno :3

It gives me an idea though, later on in the song if you have the same thing happen where it builds, drops, and then comes back, you could maybe throw in a short, lone part on a classical piano kind of similar to the opening notes of Eskimo Joe - Comfort You.

Yeah, I think that's most of the problem, I've got this really big kind of build up and I think stepping it up for a powerful mid section is really difficult. I've got a couple of ideas I might try out though. :3

https://soundcloud.com/callenby/magike-wip

I just now uploaded a horribly unfinished WIP for an album that ends in less than a week just before I go out of town for a few days where I won't be able to work on music because I LIVE ON THE EDGE.

But in all seriousness, I didn't manage to do any automation/fine tuning but I'll do that when I get back. Also the various sections aren't fully developed. I was going for a Saint-Saens kind of feeling. The biggest concern of mine would be structure; what do you think of it? Out of everything the structure has been the biggest problem.

The other issue I have is with the melody. Think it evolves well enough? Also, it was originally for flute but I didn't have a good VSTI for that so I swapped it at the last minute for an oboe but I might change it back or something. Not sure. What instrument do you think really captures the feeling of magic (that's also within the same range)?

@Callenby
I think it sounds fine so far. Maybe add a rising ride/crash in the beginning (or not, that's just how I write orchestral). As for the instrument that captures magic. I feel that either a flute or a cello would work the best. I'd lean more towards cello (but then again that's the way I'd do it, cause I frikin love bass).

Yes, the deadline is the 14th. However, I wouldn't mind that being extended by another week, as Kheoz suggested. That would bring the release date closer to Christmastime, which I think would be neat.

As much as I'd hate to say that I need another week after the 14th, I don't think I will be able to finish my track by the 14th, either.

It's not like I decided to waste the 2 weeks we got or anything (I did actually make progress and get a chunk of the song done) but I've been getting a lot of work over the last couple of weeks, so I haven't had all the time I've wanted to work on my song. Combine that with juggling a computer between 4 people who want to use it, and a recording software which seems to crash every time you record a new guitar line, and you get a problem hehe..

Just have to record the bridge, fix up the chorus, maybe add some lead and try write some vocals (and find a singer lel). Getting there!
