A note to everyone still interested in Winter Rap Off. I hope to resurrect it sometime, but it will probably need to be hosted on a different site. While EqBeats does its job as a music hosting site well, it does little to gain listeners. I was thinking about merging it with Toastbeard, but while Sci and Zorg thought it was a nice idea, they weren't willing to integrate it.

If anyone knows a place where this would work better, let me know.

For what it's worth, I was in a slump for a while with my music making. Long story short, I got out of it and whipped together a mixtape. I think that, among other things, participating in one or two of these things helped me kickstart my shit again.

UPDATE

So WRO is back in action! Things are happening. The format has been overhauled to prevent the same death from happening again:

1)
A main issue of the original Winter Rap Off structure was the "Winner chooses the next theme" clause, which was good in theory, but would give them a capitalistic advantage over all the other entrants. Also, if the winner chose an unworkable topic, no one would enter, and there would subsequently be no one to choose the topic for the succeeding round.

This has been removed.

Now, instead. The guys at Fractured Frequencies will be offering small prizes for the winners of each round (things like beats, Steam games, merch, etc.), and each topic suggested will undergo peer review before being used.

There was a time where the competition was running twice-monthly. This has been reverted to monthly (at least... for now).

3)
The time limit for tracks was previously "30 sec - 1 1/2 min". This has now been altered to "30 sec - 3 min"

4)
Winter Rap off is now hosted on Fractured Frequencies instead of EQBeats (Thank you, Codl and Fmang for giving a start back in 2012).

It also has a new Youtube Channel and Twitter Feed, so go subscribe and follow them.

You can just rap, but pretty much every entry in the past has had a beat behind it, be it:

• made by the rapper themselves
• made my a producer as a collab entry, or
• used with the producer's consent.

I'd recommend you use a beat, as not doing so would likely put your entry at a disadvantage, compared to the other entries.
