I want to join in on this, but I'm going to be extra tardy, because I'll br waiting a few days for a paycheck so I can get a new ASUS N55SF laptop and a good friend is sending me FL10 to replace LMMS.

I've studied alot of classical music, but I'm going to need a few tips on how to make hard electronic-orchestra stuff, and I don't have $600 to buy the library Makkon uses, so any tips on getting good vsts and samples (other than DSK stuff) would be appreciated.

My response in pieces:

--You should have the time. Submissions are due June 1st. Even with getting the new laptop and software, you should be good on time.

--Classical music is the basis to almost every genre. Just use your knowledge of music to produce an interesting track!

--The library, in many cases as I understand it, is LA Scoring Strings. You'll also need Kontakt to go with it. I can show you how to set that up if you PM me when you get it. As for actually getting it, let's just say there are other ways of obtaining it ;)

Collab = Collaboration

You and someone else make a track together.
Simple as that.

I would very much like to contribute to the album with two tracks, one Knife-Party inspired and the other more breaks/moohmbahton.

Here's the more completed one. Criticism appreciated (BTW, the samples are temporary if deemed stupid/cheesy). I do wish to make this track better.

I enjoyed listening to it. Maybe add a smiggen more bass, but I have nothing bad to say about it.

I personaly think you could use some more time on that.

We got loads of time to get done and we should all make use of it right? :D

It's a little too repetive imo

Thanks for your feedback. I've been rocking my brain this last week trying to come up with anything to add to this track but nothing.

But what you are saying is very true, I'm going to work on this track a bit longer and hopefully have a better version sometime before June. :D

If you have any more feedback I'd love to hear it. Do you think the whole song is reptitive or just some parts? If so, which parts?

Here's some quick feedback,

Its really repetitive... You need to change up the sounds a lot, I am guessing your using massive. If you are then automate the wavetable knobs on the oscilators to change throughout the track. A the drums need a lot of work, you need them infront of the mix leading everything else through the track, try some sidechaining and transiet shaping.

I suggest taking a break from listening/ working on the song for a week or two, you still have 3 months until the deadline so dont worry about time.

Okay, here's my WIP. I need the drums to be THIS HARD THIS HARD THIS HARD. Any suggestions as to how to make this song any harder?

I dont have acess to my speakers at the moment so I will just give you normal advice.

To make your kick harder find the fundemental frequency of the kick and eq it out of every other sound in the track (espicially bass), this will make it stand out more. A transient shaper can bring out the entire drums track to stand infront of the mix. sidechaining the bass and lead parts to the kick helps, I dont mean the huge pumping house sidechaining but a little can go a long way.

Also should these WIPs be posted in the music section?

Just wondering... Will there be anyone gathering the songs together seperated after genre and like make mixes?

I can't help but thinking about this person: http://www.youtube.com/user/OfficialDJPON3

Gathering up all of the best "Electronicly" made songs together for one big mix perhaps?

very prog rocky but not very HARDCORE!! good but is it on-theme?

Okay, I changed a bit, added a bit, and increased the tempo a bit. I have no clue what worked and what didn't, though I think most did. If somepony could listen to this and tell me if this is "hardcore" enough, I'd be very grateful.

I would replace your kick with a much heavier one and bring that to the front of the mix and give the bassline more presence, doing that will make it feel heavier.

Anyone can give it a shot as long as its harcore! But personally I wouldn't realease my first song I would simply set it aside and keep learning, it likely wont be good enough (there is a big learning curve) but the people here (me included) would love to help you get your song sounding its best and if you want to send it to the album then let no one stop you.

So I took the feedback I got earlier and after some time away from the track I knew I had to change something but didn't know what. So I changed pretty much everything.

Hopefully you will agree with me that this is an improvement and I hope I didn't fall into the traps as the last one.(repetitiveness and so on)

Even though its still a work in progress I'd love to hear your feedback on it so far.

Here's my second track. This one is more Moohmbaton/Nu Skool Breaks. Aside from mastering issues, I think I might be done with this one too! I was quite surprised by how quickly I completed this one. :)
Please help me improve if possible.

@bread, that track sounds really nifty! The only thing I could suggest is maybe a sort of pad in the main tune, but other than that I don't have any improvements! :)

Around the 2:40 mark, there seems to be some orchastrated melody in the background. Personally I think it needs to be more pronounced, it's too soft and would compliment the song more if it were a bit louder, if not the focus.

@bread: That's some good dubstep.

Just out of curiosity, how would BP handle tracks that are composed with an Opeth sort of style - that is, would it be acceptable to submit a track that has a good amount of mellow sections, but with the goal of making the harder sections stand out and feel even more brutal?

(^That's the sort of thing I'm talking about; just imagine that it could be done with virtually any genre... This sort of thing goes on in a good bit of dubstep today as well.)
