Mixing With K-Metering/Low Levels

Postby Friv » 09 Mar 2013 00:16

Basically, this video talks about creating an arbitrary (and almost a placebo) clipping point for you to mix to, with the peak levels being much lower than 0DB so you can get a cleaner mix, and a more worthwhile master. The whole "K-meter" thing doesn't really serve a big purpose, it's just a tool to help you keep your levels low and clean. (Even though I know it's better to mix at low volumes, I still tend to push everything a lot higher, because I'm an idiot) but if you want to improve your mixing, you should watch this.
Well I'm pretty much done with this site (it wasn't about the April Fool's joke I actually loved that). If for some reason somebody wants to contact me or something (not like any of you even care lol):

Too lazy to watch the whole 9 minutes.

Yeah, I always try to mix at around -8dB

He's not the most engaging guy to listen to, but yeah. This is basically how I mix, minus using the arbitrary 0dB level in K metering, but I mix quietly, and it's funny that he was also pushing 0dB in his mixes. Professional (y)

I thought everyone mixed like this.
That's what people told me to do.

Aargh why can't I bring myself to mix at lower levels? I always mix at 0db with a soft clipper on the master!

Agh why do I mix and master like a dumbass?

I usually mix quietly myself, I've never given myself an exact level to mix to, but I always keep it from clipping/peaking anyways, so I think I'm on good terms.
