There isn't a class on music theory, or I can't find it. Did you mean the songwriting class?

Dangit, I swear I saw one, but nevermind me, I'm crazy.

This looks cool. Thanks for the link.

I'm probably going to skim the first week as I'm already familiar with overtones and the physics of sound.

And I've finished the videos on the Introduction to Sound Design course. I definitely learned some new things. It didn't quite meet my expectations of learning more about synthesis and such, but I guess all that is left for me to do with that is practice. I ended up getting a 78% on the final exam. Not bad. Overall would average out to about 77.85%-ish, so I think I did fairly well, considering the most problems that I got wrong were the ones involving vocabulary.

Overall, I liked it. Definitely can't wait for the courses on music production and songwriting, which start Wednesday. Pretty exciting stuff

Just thought I'd let people know that a bunch of new music classes have been put up, some of which start as late next year. Here are a few of the new ones:

History of Rock, Part One (May 13th 2013. 7 weeks long.)
https://www.coursera.org/course/historyofrock1

Fundamentals of Audio and Music Engineering: Part 1 Musical Sound & Electronics (Jun 3rd 2013. 6 weeks long.)
https://www.coursera.org/course/audiomusicengpart1

Fundamentals of Rehearsing Music Ensembles (August 2013. 8 weeks long.)
https://www.coursera.org/course/music-ensembles

Write Like Mozart: An Introduction to Classical Music Composition (January 2014. 6 weeks long.)
https://www.coursera.org/course/classicalcomp

Exploring Beethoven’s Piano Sonatas (Date to be announced. 5 weeks long.)
https://www.coursera.org/course/beethovensonatas
(Super excited for this one)

You can check them all out here.

I feel like at this point they should just hire me for promotion, lol. I'm starting to feel like a shill.

Today I found this website that has an enormous list of free online classes.

It's an aggregator that's made up partly of Coursera's catalogue but there are a couple of different services as well, so if you aren't happy with Coursera then you look into these other ones.

I didn't have time to watch the physical modeling, or any of the last week but I passed with a 83%. Guess I got really lucky.

Anyway, hope to see some of you in either the songwriting or production classes!

You can still sign up for the first class though (I think) and then you just have to download the videos and watch them. I just think that you won't be able to take the tests related to the course.

Other than that, both instructors for both the current classes are really awesome people. Especially the songwriting instructor, he's just plain great.

Hello, nice to meet everyone. I'm taking the "Introduction to Music Production" and the "Songwriting" coursera classes. Just finished up the "Intro into Sound Design" class.
I'm also taking a full load at my local university, but that programming =P.

I just signed up, and am downloading the videos for Intro to Music Production, Songwriting, and Intro to Sound Design (and soon to be several more) for musical studies this summer. Yay learning!
My goal is to be capable of making any kind of music that strikes my fancy, and do it well.
