Haha, question 54: "If a tree falls in a forest and no one is around to hear it, is there sound?"

Hilarious.

Overall, I got a 77%, with most of the questions I got wrong relating to terminology. Man, I can never seem to get my terms down. Oh well, I guess I"ll pay more attention to week 3 and week 4's questions, maybe reviewing some of the videos that I think will be more beneficial to me.

Signed up for this course on Friday. Watched both weeks of lectures over yesterday and today.

Got a 93% on mid-term.

Although I was formally trained in basic sound theory and acoustic oceanography for the military, so I "may" have had some advantage there.

Got 96% on the test, a little mad that one of the two I got wrong was "If a tree falls in a forest, and noone hears it, does it make sound." but whatever, I have nothing to complain about grade wise.

Barely passed the midterm, I had to crunch time everything since I've been busy ALL week, pain in the ass but I'll live.

90% once I retook it after Firefox crashed, even though I had very nicely asked it not to do that.

But after glancing through the forum it seems that quite a few people are critical of some of the questions, including that one about a tree falling in a forest (did that question strike anyone else as being a little bit random?).

I took the exam after reading about it in this thread (I signed up for the course just to try it) and my thoughts are...

Wow, I got 52/60 (86%), some questions were worded pretty bad in comparison to my engineering courses which resulted in wrong answers when I know I'm right, other questions seemed course specific on topics that have little importance in day to day knowledge. Also what was with the repeat questions, slightly different wording with the same answer, they were the easy ones too like "what is frequency?". I'm not too impressed with the test itself but hey, who am I to judge it, I haven;t looked at any of the other course material.

I hope you all are enjoying it, it seems like you are learning some good stuff.

The lecturer needs a glass of water. His grunts are very VERY distracting...

So these classes are pretty good, huh? Are there any available over the summer? School has me too busy at the moment to be able to dedicate much time to something like this, but i'd love to do it.

I'm sure there are a few lectures over the summer. You'd have to check out the course lists to see which ones are over the summer.

Probably not. You should sign up now and download ALL of the available lectures to watch later when you've got time.

But what about the interactive parts, like the assignments and the tests or whatever?

Well, the class doesn't actually count for any college credits, so it isn't that big of a deal to skip the tests, unless you REALLY, REALLY WANT that pat on the back paper certification.

The video lectures are the most important part IMO, so if you're unable to participate in the interactive portions, you're still getting the majority out of the course by watching the videos.

I'm just sitting here, watching all of the Synthesis tutorials, thinking about how basic this is and wondering why I'm still watching when I could be messing with Toxic Bio or something.

There isn't a class on music theory, or I can't find it. Did you mean the songwriting class?
