The Guitar Thread

Postby Pickslide1992 » 01 Jan 2012 18:39

Surely I can't be the only guitarist here. Is is a place for all of us to wrap about our favorite six string (Or four string for you bassists) instrument. Feel free to talk about anything guitar related, like gear loadouts, techniques, genres you play, etc.

My personal loadout:

2003 Gibson SG Standard Ebony
Line 6 PodXT Live
Fender Deluxe 90 (Which I'll be selling/pawning soon)
Yamaha acoustic

Fender's a good brand, I wouldn't say ill of their stuff. So is Ibanez. I'm guessing it's a made in Mexico model, huh? Those are not half bad.

Yeah, because here's my thought on where some guitars are made. It doesn't matter if it's made in America, Mexico, China, Equestria, some far off alien planet, as long as it sounds good and plays well, it's a fine instrument. I've played some imported Chinese winners yet played a couple of American losers. It's all a matter of labor.

The reason Chinese instruments are cheaper is because the materials are somewhat cheaper and the labor is cheaper as well. American instruments are often handmade and use better materials. However, not all guitars are alike. Some may be the same make, model, even the same specs, but may have totally different feels.

Like I said, there are some good, cheap brands out there like Agile, for instance. They're good if you want to play a Les Paul without paying an arm and a leg.

How does it play? I hate to brag, but my SG is something I'll take to my grave. Most, if not all the tracks I recorded I've used that guitar.

Schecter Diamond Series Bass
Yamaha Acoustic Guitar

I bought an external pickup for my acoustic and ran it through my bass effects pedal to get some interesting sounds. I personally love delay, reverb, and all things chorus.

Got an Ibanez S470. Absolutely adore the thing. =)
Then I've got a less-than-impressive Vox AD30VT (though it gets the job done pretty well) and a crappy $100 Yamaha acoustic. Best $100 acoustic I've ever played on, but it's still a $100 acoustic. xD

My sister lends me her super old, cheap XPectra guitar with faulty pickups and broken knobs, and her super old, brandless acoustic guitar. I'm still able to get sounds out of them, so that's a real good thing I guess. I want a Gretsch guitar, though. I love how they sound.

I personally always wanted a Fender, since I already have a Gibson. You know, get the best of both worlds.

I have my first Squire guitar, that has been in pieces for two years now(I am going to paint it, I SWEAR)
My Schecter with a Floyd Rose bridge that I NEVER use (bad idea to buy that)
My Jackson which is my favorite; I bought it used, and it had a Dimebucker in the bridge, which I don't REALLY care for, but it's awight, and I don't really want to spend money to replace it. Sadly, right now the Jackson doesn't work, so I'm stuck with my Schecter :(
I have a crappy Ibanez electro-acoustic guitar that sucks donkey-balls.
I have an Art & Lutherie acoustic guitar that's kinda cheap, but I LOVE the sound. I have pick-up I can pop in if I need to.
I also have a no-name bass that I got for $50 from my uncle, that, besides the ground-buzz, isn't half bad.
I also have pedals n' stuff; I like to use multi-effect pedals so I can switch between completely different sounds on stage if I want to.
I think that's about it...

Huge multi effects guy here. I like the versatility that they provide, everything from jazz cleans to brutal metal. Schecters aren't bad, but I've never been a FR fan, since they're a pain in the flank to restring.

That's exactly why I prefer my jackson. If I want to change gauges or a different tuning, I just do it. Once a FR is set up, it's allright, but I don't even use a whammy enough to justify the trouble it is. :\

I sometimes do hair metal tracks, so that'd be the only motivation for me to get an FR equipped guitar, but even then it seems a bit specialized. That's why I never got into "metal" guitars. That's all they seem to be good at. They can do other genres, sure, but for cleans the pickups may have a bit of grind to them already to where they add dirt to an otherwise clean signal.

I have an Ibanez acoustic/electric with built in chorus/tuner etc.
I absolutely love it because it is burled maple with a satin finish <3
It's so unique, and sounds so good. Personally, I don't like the electric effects on my acoustic, because well, it's an acoustic. But they are kinda neat.
I also have a random Burswood acoustic, that I hate.
Check out my stuff.

Me gusta. Sounds like a fine piece of work, even if the effects aren't your cup of tea. I personally like a nice bit of chorus with cleans, but they're orgasmic with acoustic sounds

I have a Fender Squire Telecaster. There are much better options out there, but for the price it's good.
I also have an acoustic Fender CD-60 Dreadnought. I would definitely recommend it to anybody looking for a fairly cheap acoustic. I love its tone.

Does anyone else have a problem in that they are constantly losing picks? I go through a 12-pack in like 2 months because I can never figure out where I put them...

Yep. All the time. Then when I do my laundry they fall out of socks or something. Now I have this neat necklace to hold a bone pick I got for Christmas.
