This one isn't quite as "clean" as the other one posted earlier.

The octave on this is so low, most of this sound is simply a sound falling apart. For example, there is no LFOs or anything modulating the bass. It's one particular envelope fading in the longer the note is held down, which essentially is "upsampling" the bass from nothing.

Higher notes mean less sample destruction, making the non-existent LFO sound quicker.

The subbass is set to a ratio of 4, to illustrate how low this sound actually is. Since a subbass typically peaks around -C2 to -C1, the notes played are somewhere in the -C3 to -C2 range.

@Navron: Holy crap! I love it! The deep droning bass is sweet I think you should do more with it! Maybe brighten up the bass a little or layer more sounds in it. I think you got a ctachy bass rythm going on.

I'm also loving this. I got FM8 but I havn't done much with it yet, but I see you got some skill with it. I'm encouraged to try it out myself. ATM I've got an affair with Razor. I'll upload some WIPs I've done later, I'm re-installing Komplete 8 Ultimate and it's taking FOREVER!

I'm still confused, a VST is anything like an effects plugin or a virtual synthesizer like Massive. So if you didn't use any VST's, that implies that you either used just samples, or maybe you used hardware synthesizers?

Although some VST's use a library of samples, and maybe you're implying that you designed the sounds yourself without presets?

As you might know, VST stands for Virtual Studio Technology. So I'm wondering what stops everything we use (Aside from hardware synths) from technically being VSTs.

When I hear VST I think of a plugin or synth that is not native to the DAW being used. This is probably what Nine Volt means.

That is exactly what I mean. Because that's what VST is, lol, a plugin/synth not native to the DAW (usually developed by a third party company)
You wouldn't call 3xOsc a VST, would you? (just an example, I didn't use FL Studio)

That's pretty sick, it's got a pretty unique feel to it. Did you resample that at all?

And yeah, if you've got a good idea on what to do with it, I'd turn it into a full song.

I wouldn't call that unique (no offense intended), it's a pretty simple sounding reese. Just a bit more, oh I don't know... transparent, maybe? Less distorted.

Yup i wasn't really going for a "transparent" sound though. I've been having problems distorting it without completely destroying the sound

Random112233: Despite it being... "over-distorted," I suppose, I have to say I still like the sound of that bass. If you find a way to make it less distorted, maybe use the more distorted sound for random stabs and breaks? (Also, I don't know much about various dnb subgenres, but I can say that that sounded more like drumstep than any neurofunk I've ever heard. But this isn't about genres. :P)

I was demonstrating to a friend various, easy things that you can do to make cool synths, and I ended up liking where this was going. Keep in mind that when I say "cool synths" that I mean cool from this novice's point of view. ;)

I actually really like this sound. I definitely think you should make this a song. I'm not sure why people are saying its over-distorted. Sounds fine to me.

I'd suggest adding a little more variation in the intro. With the stabs, with your filter automation, add in some arps or something, idk, but just have something else change/add in about halfway into your intro.

I don't know about "really bad" or anything, It's still just a rough draft is all. Obviously you're not done with it... unless you wanted to release an under-2-min song. :P

To get rid of that muffled effect, try EQing it so the whole thing's flat at about -6dB, and then boost the high end a bit, so it's at like 0dB.

And yeah, a lead would probably sound pretty cool in there. Is that gonna be a full thing?

All-in-all, not too shabby, especially if it's your first real attempt and all. Still, though, to keep it from sounding so flat, try playing around with things like unison, chorus, maybe a phaser on one of the synths, some delay, etc. Expand from there, see where it takes you! (And for the one bass that you have slightly drawn out from 4 secs to 6 secs, maybe play with some vibrato?)

I'm pretty sure I posted this already a few months back, but I still need some good feedback on it, since I pretty much sound the same now. (At least in terms of sound design and sequencing) My drops just sound really weird. I have trouble making that normal dubstep sound with like 7 different synths in the drop. I usually just pick 3-4 I like and screw around with their sequencing. If you guys like it, then that's good cause it means I don't have to do anything, but if it sounds strange/awkward/bad, then plz tell me.

The arrangement is good. The kick is decent but the snare needs more presence. Sidechain compressing your kick/snare to the bass works wonders. Your beat should compliment the rhythm of your bassline (or synth whatevr). For example have a listen to the drums here to see what i mean: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mbTpdVSyMCw#t=55

You're going in the right direction, i'd recommend focusing on sound design. Just keep working to make your stuff more beefier. Distortion, compression and EQ are key for this. Overdoing compression and distortion is a bad mistake though which i've done in my older stuff. Getting your sounds good coming from the vst without processing is really important. You cant polish a turd.

DONT FALL TOO DEEP TO THE RABBIT HOLE THOUGH. Lately I have been obsessed about my sound design and it has crippled my creativity. Arrange a song and don't touch the mixer until it's done arrangement wise.

The drums sound really acoustic, and are kinda quiet. It sounds like the basses have some kind of white noise on them? It might be the effect of something being over-distorted, so I'd just check that out if I were you.

I like the layout of it though, just the sound design needs some work.
